Is anyone here a freelance writer or copywriter or editor?

I am thinking about entering an essay contest that I saw in Glamour. It's an auto-bio and I thought about writting about being a young woman with type 1 diabetes. But I tend to ramble (as some of you have noticed in my posts) and since I have had the disease for most of my life, I don't now where to start. And also if any of you want to help me proof the story, that would help too.

The prize is $5,000 and a possible book deal. I am not looking for a book deal or anything, but hey, 5 grand could help. :D

As a type 1 diabetic myself :), why not start when you were diagnosed. Talk about how sick you were, and how you felt when the doctors gave you your diagnosis. Then talk about the challenges you faced as you learned to handle your diabetes, the challenges you face in your life because of it, and emotions involved with living with type 1 diabetes.

the only problem with talking about when i was diagnosed is that i was diagnosed when i was 13 months old. So i don't really remember. I have vague memories. But that's about it. I am gonna see my parents this weekend so maybe i can gain insight.

Okay, so talk about what it was like growing up. If you felt left out of certain things as a child. Maybe if there were class parties and everyone was eating sweets and cake and you couldn't have any.

Yep. Talk to you parents. Write about how it made them feel when you were diagnosed.
