Insulting Ebay listing
I thought this was derogatory to all fraternities in general and to Beta Theta Pi in particular. When are going to get past the stereotypes?
Now you, too, can learn the history of a fraternity in this slim hardcover entitled "Son of the Stars by G. Herbert Smith: The Pledge Manual and The Code of Beta Theta Pi". No, it doesn't detail any of the keggers, spankings, humiliations and other manchild homoerotic dangerous initiations we've heard about (see last month's GQ...you may never want your kid to go to college). Still, it's an interesting read. Binding in great shape, cover has some wear, but generally in good shape. Buyer pays actual shipping. Thanks for looking :) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=29223 |
Looks like that seller, who listed it, revised the listing to remove most of his offensive comments.

Yeah he did (hehe) Read this:
1) Get a life. 2) It's because of pompous frat boys/men that I made this description this way. Read last month's GQ and you'll see the damage that can ensue because of the exaggeration of "traditions". Read the newspapers. The foundation of frats may be a great thing, but often they're used to abuse newbies. I'll change the description, as I'm sick of hearing from you "thank you, sir, may I have another" types. ...ain't he a peach? Jono |
That's kind of shitty. The thing is I'm a Beta and I've never even seen that book before.
Our pledge manuel is open to anyone that want to see it, however our ritual books are secret. That's not a ritual book, so I don't know what it is |
That is just what it says it is, a Pledge Manual. If anyone is willing to pay more than 10 bucks for it, they'd been taken to the cleaners.
Let the dumbass sell it - we have better things to worry about, like our brothers and sisters in Iraq. God Bless Beta Theta Pi. |

As the guys have said, our pledge manual is nothing special and I'm surprised there are people out there who would want to spend money to read it |
Next time this happens you can report it to eBay. One of our badges was listed as belonging to a 'Slutority' and the seller ended up changing the listing and may have been reprimanded, I can't remember.
|
That's not right. Yeah and you can report stuff like that. My friend had her organization's pin or something put on Ebay and apparently the seller made some not so "flattering" comments about her org in the listing.
People really should get a life, that's just ridiculous. I always LMBCO at people who buy books, pins, all that of organizations they aren't a part of. WTH do you want to look at someone else's pledge manual for? |

How can you report them to the eBay gods for selling a book? One doesn't have to be a Beta to own a Beta pledge manual. Geez, one doesn't even have to be a Beta to own a Beta ritual book....
Our ethics may state it, but the law doesn't. |

I don't think the problem is so much that he's selling it... though not exactly kosher, either... it's more the rude comments that accompanied it! That's a little petty, childish, ridiculous, etc....
|
Guys, don't get me wrong, I think its horrible too that someone is slandering greeks, or selling a pin/book/robe of a fraternity or sorority that they are not affiliated with, however, I truly think that we have bigger things to be concerned about.
