What do you call your formal/ ball?

I know some groups: Alpha Chi Omega is Red Carnation Ball, Pi Kappa Phi is Rose Ball, Sigma Nu is White Star and Chi Omega is White Carnation (not too sure about that one)

Ours is Black Diamond Ball (from the black diamond on our pin and one of our symbols-the diamond) or Emerald Ball (for our sorority colors and our jewel-the emerald). What do ya'll call yours? IS it a national thing or does every chapter get to name their own?

ADPi Formal is called Black Diamond Ball, but I have seen some chapters that call it Diamond Ball.

My chapter is acronym crazy, so we like to refer to it as "BD" :) LOL

The Alpha Gamma Delta formal held each Spring is called the "Rose Ball".

Most Pi Phi chapters and alum clubs call at least one of their formals or semiformals "Beaux and Arrows". That's what we call our formal in the fall. We also have a winter Snowflake Semiformal (used to be a Pledge Ball before that terminology went out) and a Spring Semi. I wish that had a better name... I suppose I could make one.

At my campus pretty much all the sororities do 3 formals/year now. To answer your question about Chi O, the Chi O's here have a formal called Persephone's Ball and a semiformal called White Carnation. Theta has a Twin Stars formal, I know.

My boyfriend's fraternity (Pike) has never done a formal in the past, but they're adding one this year. Don't know what it's called. We're traveling to Maryland to see the Preakness!!!!! sooo giddy about that!

Others I happen to randomly know:

Sigma Chi Sweethearts
KA Old South
Sig Ep.. I've been before, but I can't for the life of me remember the name
Sigma Nu White Rose (been to that one too)

My APO chapter just called ours the end of semester banquet. How original. :D

Ours is the Royal Pearl Ball

Buttonz 03-23-2004 09:47 PM

Ours is Formal and Semi-Formal. Same goes for every other GLO on campus.

I've heard many different names for DG formals....

Cream Rose Ball (i think is most commonly used)...
Anchor Ball
Golden Anchor Ball
Sailor's Ball

feel free to add any more...

Every ADPi chapter I know calls theirs some form of "Black Diamond Ball". You have to admit that saying BDB rolls off the tongue easily!

I've even known of chapters that have everyone wear only black or white!

Tippiechick 03-23-2004 10:13 PM

At Ole Miss, our chapter called ours the White Violet Ball. At MTSU, the chapter there calls it the Crown Ball.

The B Girl 03-23-2004 10:45 PM

Our formal is "Rose Ball".
