Annoyed!
So about a month ago I bought a one month membership to a trendy area gym at a charity auction at the law school. It's really convenient to my apartment (it's Shadyside X for you Pittsburghers), so I was seriously considering buying a membership for a few months if I liked it.
So I go in today to start my one month membership. I just filled out a short form, was given my pass and that was that. I had to ask for the schedule of classes. The guy just turned to the people who came in behind me (there wasn't a line or anything) and started talkign to them. No one showed me around, told me anything about the place. Nothing. I have no idea where the locker room is, the juice bar, nothing. Now, I've personally never belonged to a gym before. But an exboyfriend had worked for a gym, and i've been in them several times before, and I know that most don't run their business like this. And common sense just dictates- if you want someone to buy something, shouldn't you at least be nice to them and pay some attention to them? I very strongly feel now that I will NOT be paying to continue my membership. Just annoyed and wanted to vent. |
This happens almost everywhere I go. I guess this must be a regional thing.

You probably weren't wearing the "right" clothes to work out in. Either that, or you didn't have the right tools for the job if you receive my drift (it is Shadyside after all, LOL).

But seriously, how hard is it to say that "the spinning room is there, the locker room there, weights, there" etc? |

i'm quite surprised they didn't. every gym i've belonged to has given a small tour and the one i go to now gives a huge tour explaining everything, which was so nice. |
Sometimes it's great if you ask. That way you don't treat people as your servants.
-Rudey --But hey, maybe I'm the only one like that |
Servants? Lol, how?
I didn't have a chance to ask. I was brushed aside as he moved on to the people who came in behind me. And if i'm paying them $54 a month plus an initiation fee there should be some amount of service involved. |

Did you ask? You said you didn't have a chance to ask, so was there only one person there? Did you act "better" and wait for this person to finish talking with someone else? Well, I hope you didn't look like a deer in the headlights and made some progress in mapping out that gym. -Rudey |
Actually, $54 a month plus initiation isn't all that bad of a price...most good city gyms are more, but that's another point.
You really should have just asked; I understand that maybe you expected them to just do it automatically, but not all gyms operate that way. I make a habit of just asking for a tour when I come in, or looking around the place myself before seeing the membership consultant or whoever. Either way, sometime it's better to just ask right up front to see the facility. |
I'm going to have to side with kddani on this one.
When I joined my gym I received a tour. I was offered one right away. Every gym I have signed up for has offered a tour. However, I don't think this was the gym itself. It was more like this particular employee was inconsiderate. |
Thanks guys :)
I wasn't really looking for anyone to take sides or anything, I just wanted to vent. |
