Regional Foods?

What foods are kind of unique to your region or area?

Here near Atlantic City we have the Submarine Sandwhich .. . . but what makes it special is that the bread is made in Atlantic City and something about the Salt Air just makes the bread really good and something uncoppyable.

This sandwich:

is the nadir or acme of the Pittsburgh palate, it would seem. It's your choice of meat, cheese, cole slaw and french fries between two slabs of Italian bread. I'm not into them, but most people love them.

I vastly prefer the other Pittsburgh discovery, the Turkey Devonshire: an open faced turkey sandwich with a delicate cheese sauce, thinly sliced tomato, and bacon on top. It's much like the Louisville Hot Brown.

Fried everything, particularly okra, and being on the ocean automatically equals seafood out the ass...too bad I can't eat shellfish and am not much on any fish really :( but I do have a thing for fried calamari :)

How could I have forgotten RC Colas and Moon Pies??? Add to that list Goo Goo Clusters and Jack Daniels Tipsy Cakes.

Honeychile, that picture is making me hungry. :p

The other thing I would mention around here are steak salads and cheese fries - mention that outside of western PA and people look at you funny.
