Founder's Day Plans?

Gosh, this section of the board is so quiet! :( Where is everybody?

Anyways, I thought we'd discuss what everybody's Founder's Day plans are. The Wingate chapter (Iota Zeta) is having a ceremony on April 17th, but that's the same weekend as the reunion from my undergrad chapter (we're having it in Charleston - yay!!!), so I can't go since I'll be at that. The following weekend, however, my undergrad chapter (Western Carolina - Epsilon Gamma) is having a Founder's Day celebration as well as the unveiling of the new Greek Village that's opening in the Fall! They've invited all the alumnae up for the weekend...I'm very excited about going!

What about ya'll...what do your chapters have planned?

GA State Day

In Georgia, we are having a State Day with all 4 of the collegiate chapters and all of the Alumnae Associations.... it's being held in the Atlanta area and will be a blast.

The Tucson Alumnae Assoc. is having a luncheon on 4/17 with order of the rose and pearl ceremonies.

We are having our luncheon with alumnae on the 18th and that night we will also being having intiation and we will invite the alumnae to stay. I think it is going to be a great intiation and so special for the girls bc it is so close to founders day!

The Pittsburgh Alumnae Association will also be having a luncheon on the 17th. A couple of local collegiate chapters are invited.

That sounds neat! I wish we could do a state day with all the NC chapters...how cool would that be. I know all the chapters are very diverse...and it might be surprising to find out that friend from high school is now your sister!

Our Southern California luncheon will be at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club on Saturday. Delta Rho (Northridge) and Theta Rho (San Marcos) collegians will be there, and each alum association in the area will be putting together a display showing its activities, and also will contribute a basket for the raffle. One member of our association suggested a basket of "stuff" that every woman should have in her car in case of emergency. This sounds like a great idea to me in principle, but I can't think of anything beyond a first aid kit and a whistle. Any thoughts?

I know the Fresno Alpha Xi Deltas will be having a luncheon at the Gamma Epsilon house.

Have a great day, everyone.

Xi!

It's funny you say that - I went to UNCA and my Senior year I found out that a friend of mine from High School had joined Alpha Xi Delta at UNCW... small world... then, when I traveled as an ELC, I visited Elon, and found out that a young woman from my high school that was a couple years younger had joined Alpha Xi Delta as well.

Seems like a state day in North Carolina would be pretty easy to do... have it in Raleigh (or maybe Charlotte) and it wouldn't be more than a 3-4 hour drive for anyone.

Hi ladies, sorry to crash your boards, but I have a few thoughts as a native Southern Californian myself. My stepmother is super into earthquake preparedness and in HS she used to make me keep a bin in my car with earthquake supplies. I had a first aid kit, a whistle, a flashlight and batteries, a radio, flares, some of those emergency blankets, water and food. I had to replace the food (granola bars, and stuff that doesn't parish too easily) and water every few months. I also kept some cash and sweats in there just in case.

As much as I used to complain about keeping the stuff in my car it came in really handy more than once.

Good luck and I hope you guys have a great time!

Sounds like some good stuff. How long is bottled water good for, seems like you could keep that for longer than a few months?

For Founders Day I'll still be in Germany, celebrating my last free weekend before summer semester classes start. I'll wear letters, but that's about it.

*bump*

Since Founder's Day is on Sunday, what's everybody got planned?

The Charlotte Alum. Assoc. is having a Founder's Day dinner where we'll be honoring a 50-year member. :)

On the 23rd, the Epsilon Gamma chapter is having their Annual Meeting and doing a Founder's Day ceremony.

GCrose34 04-11-2005 06:03 PM

We are having a tea Sunday afternoon.

flirt5721 04-11-2005 06:09 PM

At Theta Omega (NMSU) we are having the ceremony and also a BBQ. Since it is on Sunday and it will be the end of our Greek Week and we are also having alumni apprecation weekend. It's a lot but worth it.:D

Zeta Tau

Well, in March Zeta Tau - UNC Asheville turned 20 years old so we are having our 20th Anniversary and Founders Day Celebration this Saturday.

We have a lot of alumnae coming back in town....

We're having the ceremony - with many founding chapter sisters doing parts - as well as one of my chapter sisters who is Alice Bartlet Bruner's great-grand daughter (bet you can't guess which speaking part she is doing!), a few presentations and surprises! Then we are all attending the chapter's formal! I can't tell you what the surprises are yet but I will next week!

AZ-AlphaXi 04-12-2005 12:12 PM

The Tucson alumnae organized and held a Founder's Day luncheon and order of the Pearl ceremony last Saturday for some of our sisters who live in Green Valley.

Green Vally is a retirement community about 45 minutes south of Tucson. It was really special to be able to do this for these ladies who don't want to or can't get up to Tucson. Following the luncheon, we took roses to 2 ladies who are in an assisted care facility.

This saturday is the Tucson Alumnae's annual luncheon. Last I heard we're expecting about 30 to attend.
