Sugar Honey Iced Tea on TV

I can't believe there hasn't been a thread about this already!! I just knew there would be one. Anywho . . .

Did anyone watch South Park on Wednesday? Well, they said the word sh!t over 100 times. And it was HILARIOUS. But I digress. Does anyone know what the haps is with this? So you can say sh!t on ALL tv, now? Or just after 9pm or what?

Oh, (based on what they said on South Park) you can only use the word if it's NOT in the literal sense. i.e., You can't say:

- I have to take a ...
- That smells like ...

But you can use it as long as it doesn't refer to poo (I really like that word, lol, poo, lol). i.e., You can say:

- Oh ...!!
- Talkin' ...
- You look like ...

Another question: How do you feel about this new development? For? Against? Don't care?

Another question: How long do you think it will be before you can say f*ck on tv?

I saw this the other night, too!! I think they were doing it because a year or so ago, I believe Mark Harmon on Chicago Hope said it. I don't quite know how I feel about it yet. But I will say at first I thought they were saying 'ship' to be funny but then I started seeing sh!t written on shirts and the chalkboard. I can't believe I'm going to admit this but I actually thought it was kind of funny after I got over the initial shock. It was interesting how they were breaking it down like when it is appropriate to use it. I think that was just for South Park's purpose of using the word in the show but I don't know if thhose rules are for TV in general.

Now see, what kills me is on wrestling, for some wrestlers they bleep out @$$.

The random censoring sucks for television.
Have you ever watched Friday on USA or any movie that has been "Edited/censored": it sounds a HOT MESS with different voices suddenly descending. UGH.

the funny thing about that is here in NYC i sometimes listen to hot 97 with evil starr and buckwild and every other word is shi* or b*tch...when did this happen on TV and Radio?

SweetestDiva 06-22-2001 01:18 PM

It's not just radio.. I was watching something on TV a few weeks back (I think it was NYPD Blue, but not too sure), and they said "b*tch" and "a$$" about 20 times. My grandmother happened to be spending the night with us, and I thought she was going to hit the floor.

To add to my previous post, while I thought it was somewhat humorous, I still do not think it is appropriate for cable TV. But one shouldn't be shocked. Every year it seems like the envelope is pushed regarding cuss words, sex, etc. My dad always says he remembers when a woman couldn't show her navel on TV (I Dream of Jeanie). And look at NYPD Blue. Thank our society for that.

You are sooooo crazy ... but I feel ya'! I like to use the word "poo" as well...

But to answer your question, it bothers me... but only nominally.

Yes!! That irritates me sometimes, like if you watch a movie on TV, like, say "Friday" (one of my favorite movies)on, say USA, and they replace all of the curse words with other words that you good-and-well they would never say!! And then the voice they use is way different!!

Anyway (back the post),
I used to walk South Park all the time w/ my sisters 9they are old enough to watch the show) but now I don't have time...and I think the show is "hil-ar-i-ous!!" I don't care--it's stupid but it's funny. Now, if any of you saw the movie...I thought it was funny but some things sooooo did not have to be said...I think that kids under 14 should not watch the show...It's sad what can be said on TV these days...my children will not be watching most things on tv...

I have been frowning a lot at my television set and its precisely for the reasons you've mentioned. TV is now a free for all. You can cuss, show ways for one to risk one's life (and in a way indirectly encourage others to do so), commit acts of violence, have sex (the stories are like watching cable these days), etc. There's just too much going on!

So, I don't care for the trend. In this uncensored environment, there is just too much that children and society overall are exposed to. And people back it up by citing the Constitution's discussion of freedom of speech. I don't think this is what American's founders were thinking of. TV has become increasingly perverse and its difficult to find quality programming on any night of the week, IMHO.

Oh, being from the good NY, I prefer to not even listen to Hot '97 when I'm at home! Geesh, they don't censor a thing! When I was a teen, they didn't go that far, but they have over the last 5 years. Hot '97 didn't have cussing in my youth until after 12AM. Now, when I go home, I listen to the news stations (WLIB w/ Bob Law) and WBLS.

TV and Radio are a trip these days....As a parent I am constantly screening what my child takes in.....that's my job.

My mom thought she had it rough when I was singin' "Love come down" by Evelyn "Champagne" King.... she'd probably have a stroke now-a-days....

I learned my lesson early on when my 3 yr old told me "Mommy there is no sex in the champagne room... Oh you can have champagne.. but there is no sex in the champagne room" that was from MTV... Needless to say I have parent controlled much of his cable channels... I think ( don;t quote me) he can only access Nick, The Cartoon Network, Animal Planet, Disney, NY1, Thirteen (PBS),& Fox family....nothing more!

ttt

Just looking at some of the older posts. FX has brought the above to fruition.

Also, I could've sworn I heard it tonight on FAM, but I'm not sure (I was watching "The Vanishing").
