new rush requirements

I was just wondering what everyone thought about the new "no frills" rush requirements that are starting in '05. Our ABC came to talk to us about it and i think that it sucks! No fun rush theme parties anymore :(

and congrats to any sisters going through Order this spring!!!! i know i am and i am SOOO excited.

Is this for all chapters? and if so are all NPC sororities doing it or just us and hoping people jump on the band-wagon?

pardon my barge, but NPC rush was supposed to be no frills like 10 YEARS ago. As you can tell it has gone over like the proverbial lead balloon. :p

no frills

i realize that things have gotten out of hand at some universities. i was VPM for awhile and it's a huge position, but the fun part is coming up with rush parties. At my school we don't have houses and rush is only a week long and there are only 3 social sororities to rush.

but no frills can be good and it can be boring. Set standards leave little room for creativity.

maybe i'm just biased because i come from a small school and there aren't a lot of frills (just rush infractions from a certain not-to-be-names sorority)

Please excuse my crashing your forum :)

Is this a policy being enacted by Sigma Kappa requiring all SK chapters to go no-frills?

What happens on campuses where rush is still high-frills? I can just picture PNMs coming from parties at ABC and XYZ where they saw balloons, glitter, flowers, fancy costumes, etc. and got five-course meals with their choice of beverages, then coming to SK where they're getting nothing but icewater and the room is bare. (OK, I'm exaggerating, but you get the point.)

We all know that rush is about finding a sisterhood you can call home, but often PNMs are swayed by the external trappings and go after the chapter with the cutest decorations, nicest house, etc.

the no frills is a national panhel policy for all NPC members. Formal rush is to be no frills which means no lavish rush parties, no theme parties, or anything of that nature. Basically what i take from it is that it is getting back to the basics of sisterhood. Which is nice, but at the same time rush was always a time for my chapter to pull together because we all got rush shirts, or stuff like that.

As far as i know, the "no-frills" policy is going into effect in '05 so it won't affect the fall rush (which is my formal rush).

if i am wrong on any of this please correct me. i don't want to put things up here that aren't accurate.

That's been true for a while, but as 33girl pointed out, it's been ignored to a greater or lesser degree at many schools.

I'm picturing a campus where the NPC "no-frills rush" recommendation has been largely ignored, but the local Sigma Kappa chapter has to go no-frills because nationals said so - while the other NPC chapters continue to use high frills. I can't see that being a good thing for SK.

from what i understand it is not just Sigma Kappa but all sororities that are under the NPC rules nation wide. Sigma Kappas are not going to be the only ones affected by this especially if NPC really cracks down on enforcing it somehow.

I think its a good thing, though I'm not sure that everyone would agree with me. i think it's about time things started working this way.

I'll be interested to see how it pans out w/ the rest

I BELIEVE we have "no frills" rush (its either that or whatever they call as few frills as possible) :shrugs: i like it ... its easier on our budget and id rather have girls who were interested in us and whom we are interested in rather than who responds to our decked out house
:shrugs: i dunno
