Question for New Yorkers
 

I know there's already a similar thread going, but I have a slightly different question:

My fiance and I will be spending a few days in NYC over Easter weekend. Neither of us has ever been there before. Any suggestions on things to do/restaurants/etc that you highly recommend???

Native New Yawker, though long since exiled to Texas. It's been years since I've been to NYC, so I'm pretty sure some of our resident New Yawkers on GC will chime in with more up-to-date info.

Easter Sunday - next to the church services, don't forget the unofficial 'Easter Parade' of women wearing their finest to church services.

There are so many good places to eat in the city that it's hard to recommend just one or two; many of them are within a subway, cab ride or even a long walk from wherever you're staying.

Stay out of midtown, and stay in the Village. Much more character.

Also, a good museum to visit, on the Upper East Side, is the Frick Collection, because its not to big. While you're there, the Polo store is a few blocks away, and unlike anything that you've ever seen.

Don't forget the Met, especially if you love museum/art. Located at the Museum Mile, it was close enough to the Guggenheim Museum - another must to see.

I guess it depends on what you like to see and what not. I am a big art and design guy - a glimpse of the Cypresses by van Gogh and self potrait by Rembrandt are more than shots at local bars.

Everybody is agree, though, top of Empire State Building is a must. :)

To add: go to the Seagram Building, and enjoy the restaurant at the bottom of it. Yeah, it is pricy, but that would be the best dininng you've ever had!

listen to Russell he knows what he's talking about. I'm starting to really like the Vilage.
I actually LIKE the real tourist places bc then I get to complain about how annoying they are. So I'd reccommend Times Square & the like but only if you like crowds etc etc. :) Go to little italy and eat somewhere family style for a very full meal.

The Four Seasons hotel has a nice view of the city. Go for a drink at the bar and you can get a good view. My senior year Art History teacher used to always tell us to do this. LOL.

To me the village has a heck of a lot of annoying long-term tourists...specially the super annoying NYU kids. For dinner, try Rao if you can get a spot.
