Recs - Fall 2004!! (Help?)

..

It may not be essential that you have a recommendation letter but it certainly does not hurt. If you are rushing as a sophomore and most women rush as freshmen, you're already at a disadvantage. If your mother is in a GLO, her local alumnae organization will have contacts to the Panhellenic for your hometown. Her friends, even if not in the GLOs at your college, can facilitate you meeting alumnae from those organizations. It may take some legwork on your part, and their part but it will be worth it in the end.

such a thing as a "Panhell" Rec

Ok here is a "similar" vein question...

The young woman living across the street from me is an excellent young woman and would be an asset to any GLO...of course I would LOVE if it were Phi Mu :)...but alas, she has chosen to go to a campus that does not have a Phi Mu chapter (silly thang!).

I STILL believe she would make an excellent sorority woman. Is there such a thing as a "NPC Rec" where you can send a rec to the school (as a member of a NPC group) to introduce her to the campus NPC and rec her for rush to ALL groups?

AXO, DG, KD and ZTA, she is coming your way at NFU next year!!!! Lucky groups :)

this question is a shot in the dark. when you say 'NFU', do you mean University of North Florida?

I don't think there is such a thing as a "Panhel Rec" but I have written recommendations for Pi Phi based upon information given to me by Panhellenic friends in similar situations. Just need to talk to your alumnae panhellenic representatives to find out who if AXO, DG, KD or ZTA have alumnae groups in your area (and I would be surprised if they did NOT) and who to contact.

I would except that the Des Moines Area Panhell just recently (last year or so) disbanded :(

Contact your National Panhel Rep and she should be able to connect you with someone.

I believe Ames still has an Alumnae Panhellenic. Might be able to get some recs for her thru them...just a thought

Panhell Rec idea

I appreciate all the suggestions, but perhaps it is time to ask NPC to develope such a recommendation. You can submit to the Panhell of the school, should there be no chapter of your org at the school.

Every NPC group at the school gets a copy, and the "rec'd" person gets a nod in the consideration process; maybe not as much as if it was a rec to your org, but more than just the usual PNM :)

No, my mom wasn't in a GLO. I'm going to talk to her friends, but I'm really not sure what they can do, esp. since they live in Southern states and I live in the midwest. Does anyone know anything about who else to contact about it? I mean, would contacting different sororities at national levels help seek out local alum organizations...? I don't know! I'm confused!

Thanks for the reply! ;)

Actually my question about a Panhell rec is right up with what you need. You/Your mom knows sorority women in other GLO's than are at your school. A "Panhell Rec" from them to the Panhell at the school would be just the introduction a person in your situation would need to get an extra bump in the process.

As for getting recs....even if they live in a different region of the country, they can write a rec for you for their GLO. All they do is mail it in to the chapter that will be "rushing" you :).

Have you made an effort let those you know from the GLO'S know you are interested in joining, and are planning on rushing in the Fall. Nothing like getting to know members yourself and letting them know of your interest to trump a rec from an alumna.

SmartBlondeGPhB 03-11-2004 01:16 PM

No, there aren't "Panhell recs" in the sense of hat you need. All recs need to come from a member of that particular GLO.

BUT, to add to what was said already. You know current, active members of the GLO's on your campus. THEY may know local alumnae if the chapter has any alumnae support. They may be willing/able to give you their names and those alumnae could help you find other local alumnae to write recs for you.

I also pm'd you if that helped.........

Right, there are no "panhell recs" in existence now :). I am just suggesting perhaps that is something to be considered and developed for future use ;)

I am going to email our panhell delegate about it :)

Some chapters require just a recommendation (active or alumnae) and others require alumnae references, in addition to those that "strongly recommend" them or dont require them at all.

If you have buddies in all of them or a few that you are really interested in, ask them to write you one. If they cant for whatever reason they should have no trouble getting the proper person to get in touch with you to write one for you on their behalf.
