Cob'
Okay here's the situation . The Panhellenic Council at my school is thinking about letting the sororities have their each own individual rush at different times during the semester or having a COB program in place. My question is for all the Latina/Multi-Cultural/Local Sorority members out in greekchat land. How does the COB process effect your intake numbers? :)

It Doesn't.
I would say that the COB process of the Panhellenic Council has little to no effect on the membership of many Latina or Multicultural sororities. From what I've seen, most women either want to go Panhellenic, or know that they want to be in a LGLO/MCGLO. However, I have seen numerous cases in which a woman did not make it through the membership process for a LGLO and then either went COB for a Panhellenic sorority, or went through Panhellenic rush the next time around.

After reading my thread I realized I forgot to mention one important fact. My campus is a predominately white school and there is another Latina Sorority on campus so in essence we compete for the same girls. So now knowing that , how would you say that COB would effect numbers?

I have some additional questions:
1. Do the two Latina sororities fall under the Panhellenic Council? (Some campuses require this, although I personally think it is not right.) 2. Will the Latina sororities participate in COB, or is the COB on the part of the Panhellenic sororities only while the Latina sororities will still conduct their individual membership activities? If the Latina sororities are separate from Panhellenic and follow their own individual guidelines for recruitment, I still see no reason why the Panhellenic moving to COB would effect either one of you. If ladies are specifically seeking to join a LGLO, they will not even care what Panhellenic is doing. In my opinion, I don't think that we as LGLOs necessarily compete for the same people. On the surface, it may seem like we do because there are few Latinas on many campuses....but...the reason why I don't think we are competing (on a deeper level) is because a woman knows in her heart (or at least should know) which LGLO is right for her, and she will usually pursue that organization. My advice is to not worry about the Panhellenic, the COB (no matter who is doing it), or the other Latina sorority when it comes to recruiting new hermanas. Women who (TRULY AND SINCERELY) want to belong to your organization will go for it and give their best effort. Those who can be so easily swayed to one sorority or the other are probably just looking to wear (ANY) letters, and those are not the mujeres you want anyway. Good luck to you, fellow hermana! |
We are associates of Panhellenic Council. Meaning that we get a vote, but cannot ever hold the position of Panhellenic President or Treasurer. We only participate in information night during Fall Rush and the COB will only be a Panhellenic event . We will still do our rush separately. I truly hope that it does not effect our numbers.
Thank-You for yor advice hermana . |
