Questions for PNM's!

My University has a large number of rushees each year. With all those girls, there are always problems with coming up with something original to talk about. Our rush head always tells us to come up with three questions ahead of time, incase we have a problem getting the conversation to flow. We steer away from the over-asked questions like: Where are you from (it is on their name tag)? What is your major? How do you like rush? Does anyone have any original questions that we can ask the PNM.

What other schools did you look at when you applied?

What dorm are you in? How do you like it?

What kind of music do you like?

What sorts of activities have you gotten involved in / are you interested in joining? Do you do any sports? Do you play an instrument? etc. (You may have something in common. It is a bit overused, though.)

What TV programs do you watch? -or- Do you watch <insert name of popular TV program>? (could backfire if they don't)

What do you like to do with your free time? (Then follow up on it. For instance, if the PNM is an avid cross stitcher, ask her about her current projects.)

Here's one to avoid: So, do you have any questions about XYZ? When I went through FR, there was one sorority where I think every single sister I met asked me that. I had a few prepared questions, but I ran through them so fast that I ran out of questions! PNMs are nervous enough as it is :)

I'm not a pnm, but my best rush conversations were totally wierd. I had one about giving boyfriends gifts, which later turned into how these girls and I thought potted plants were better gifts than cut flowers. I also had one about fake ID's. I'm sure if any of the advisors had overheard us the girl would have gotten in trouble, but it was fun.

I would make sure you vary the topic from what the girl before talks to the PNM about. We use the introduction to clue the next active into what has been discussed so they can point the conversation in a different direction. Think of the poor PNM who has to describe her cross stitching to everyone!!

You could ask them about their family, if they have any pets, places they have traveled to, activities in high school, hobbies, kinds of music they like, what's their favorite reality show/character, favorite stores to shop at.
