ebay concern

Ladies I don't know if I am justified in my concern but I am going to share this story with you. We had a woman go through formal recruitment 3 years ago. We extended her a bid and after bid day found out that this girl has some serious academic issues. VERY long story short, she was a transfer who had been kicked out of her previous school due to grades, lied to panhel about her transferred grades saying the gpa on her record was not correct and allegheny was fixing the mistake. In the end she should never have been able to go through recruitment because of her grades and after she became a delta she was asked to leave allegheny for various reasons.

She went back home and transferred to a local school which had an adpi chapter. she asked for a recommendation but our exec never gave her one so she was never able to affliate. As far as I know, her membership was/is in the process of being revoked. She never received her pin etc etc.

I was just on ebay and I notice a pledge book up for auction and the highest bidder is her!! I am 100% certain and I don't know how comfortable I feel about her still pretending to be a sister in good standing when she's not. She really broke a lot of people's trust and our chapter was pretty upset about the situation. I know there probably isnt much that I can do about this but I'm still wondering if there is anyway that EO can be informed. Ebay's a tough place to regulate such things I know...just looking for some advice

sorry for the rant...she upsets me sometimes

Are you talking about the 1940's Pledge Book, first initial bmg?

Please let me know, as I will put the word out SOOO fast!!!

HBADPi 03-07-2004 11:43 PM

YES!

honeychile you're my hero :)

honeychile 03-07-2004 11:47 PM

Aw, gee, thanks! I can't take credit for anything, though - I just really really really hate liars & phonies!!

Especially when it comes to something such as Alpha Delta Pi!

I couldnt agree with you more. Let me know what happens with the pledge book because I doubt I'll be able to check ebay very often this week with finals and such. What makes it hard with her is that her parents are very wealthy and she pretty much has unlimited resources in the financial department. Not that there is anything wrong with that but I'm just giving you warning in case she doesnt back down in that auction.

She has ME scared! It's up to $93.99 now!! I've notified three different people, and asked them to notify others. Let's hope it works!

that is very unfortunate :(

Maybe we can spread the word through Pride Online!

If she left your university and did not cancel her membership or have it cancelled, and did not affiliate with the chapter at the new university, than she qualifies as an alumna member and is a member of ADPi.

At this point, unless she owes money to your chapter, she is an alumna member in good standing. You can call EO to determine if in fact she was cancelled.

I understand your concern, but I have to agree with ADPIucf. If in fact she didn't owe money at the time of her transfer, she was in good standing and in now an alumna.

What happened with the book????

abbey-

you're right. i guess i'm just too personally involved in this situation. I'm more than certain had she not been kicked out from allegheny she would have felt some repercusions on the adpi side. I knew there wasnt much that could be done and I feel bad now having brought it up.

It's ok not to love every member like she was your best friend! Sometimes other people put us through things and we'd prefer not to be associated with them. It's not "unsisterly." It's merely human nature!!!

Once project FAITH is completed, I believe we will once again have access to fellow members' addresses and emails, etc., in the Pride Online address book. Maybe, to make yourself feel better, you can write this woman a letter. Tell her how she made you and your friends feel. Get it off your chest. Of course, she may never write back. Or she might and you can come to a happy medium. Either way, get your feelings out. She may have a side to the story, too, or she might have grown up a little and now that she "gets it," she holds the real meaning of ADPi close to her and she is intent on rescuing ADPi items off EBay, just like us!

You haven't done anything wrong, HB!

What happened to the Pledge Book?????

Yikes, I go on vacation and I miss all this GC and Ebay stuff!!

Tggrsluv2bnce 03-11-2004 05:42 PM

I won the pledge book, which is awesome because I'm actually the first person that bid on it. I am giving it to a sister who is turning 40 on Sunday! She's going to be so surprised!

What a WONDERFUL gift that will be!!

HBADPi 03-12-2004 03:08 AM

HORRAY!! THE BOOK WAS SAVED!!! Violets to Tggrsluv2bnce. I got on GC real quick to post an update and it was a happy suprise to find out someone saved it. It took me awhile to get in touch with some of the old exec members from 2-3 years ago but I finally got the answer I was looking for. The girl in question did in fact get her membership stripped and it has gone through EO. There have been HB sisters that had noticed her on ebay previously bidding on adpi stuff and attempted to run up the prices on items but a delta sister's financial capabilities are not very high. I'm not certain I want to post her username but I think we need to keep an eye out for her. If you want her username just PM me.

It truly breaks my heart when things like this happen but I'm glad this story has a happy ending. I hope your friend enjoys her gift!!
