I'm MOVING! and I need furniture...
I need help.
I move in two weeks to my own apartment. I need to get my hands on a dinning room table set that isn't going to cost me a month's rent. I also need a coffee table. I have tried Target, Walmart, K-mart, a couple classified ads and I am not having much luck. And the weather here sucks so people aren't really having garage sales. My question is are there any other places/online stores I can try? I still have to try the thrift store circuit but any other ideas will help. Also... my roommate gave me the idea of spray painting furniture. Since I am going for a modern look in my living room with black furniture, i need to paint my current pieces (end tables, bookshelf). I see it all the time on Trading Spaces but I am never sure if it's a good idea. Anyone ever try it? Thanks in advance. |
How about IKEA?

Do you have craigslist.com in your city? A lot of cheap stuff there.

If only you lived in FL then you could buy my dining room table! Good luck finding stuff for your apartment...now if you know anyone in FL (especially Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater) and they need a VERY NICE formal dining room table - send them my way! ;)

Try craigslist or go to Goodwill or Salvation Army - but make sure it's a Goodwill or SA near a ritzy neighborhood. You'd be surprised at some of the stuff you find.

The first time I moved out, I went to a furniture rental store. They have things that they sell after nobody is renting them anymore. Often, they were just rented to sit in a model apartment or model home and were never even really used for typical purposes.

I made my coffee table out of an old window pane. Go to any junk store and get an old window pane...you can paint it any way you want (even the glass if you want)--or put mirrors in it...just go to Home Depot or somethinand get legs to put on it.
Mine is so cute and unique. I also got a kitchen table & chairs at a junk store and painted it...the set was only $125. It's really cute too. |
well i think i can get a coffee table for free. apparently when my job moved to the building we are in now, they stopped using this old coffee table they had at the old building. now it's just sitting in the press room. i am told it should be no problem handing it over. i just need to paint it.
I have been to ikea... the only problem is that i would have to travel to the bay to buy a dinner table and somehow cart it up in my lil corolla. I went to goodwill today... however i felt like if i touched anything i would get some sort of disease. the goodwill here isn't that great. |

You could try checking the local classifieds, too.
