So where next? Any extension is great, but are there any HBCUs that would be particularly good to target for next?

BTW, The third HBCU with a chapter is Iota Epsilon at Central State in Ohio and the fourth is Kappa Delta at FA&MU.

I don't think we should target any schools for extension. The interest should come to us.

Randy, I can talk more offline with you about my feelings on this.

What about KD? They are active.

I think that it really is good to see our HBCUs coming back in the fold. We support each other 100%.

I know that KD is active, I just don't know if KD takes notice of the fact that they are #4 (Black Delta) or not.
I know that Section 56 is trying to bring back Central State, but not sure of how far they've gotten with anyone.

I can tell you right now that there was a spark (emphasis on spark) of interest in reactivating Iota Epsilon back in '95, shortly after I transferred from that school to Capital. A group of guys, led by a guy named Antoneaux Clinton wanted to bring back the chapter. But at that time, the school was about to undergo a MAJOR state audit for alledged misappropriation of school funds. There was also serious talk by the Ohio General Assembly about shutting down the school for good. Needless to say, they voted to keep the school open and the audit cleared the school of fund misappropriation; it was due to poor bookkeeping and accounting. However, the dorms were condemned (5 of the 9 dorms), students had to live in motels miles away, and enrollment dropped dramatically. Thus, any reactivation plans that were on hand were put on the back burner.

Right now the school, while attendance is rising, still is relatively low due to the fact that their athletic program was suspended for 10 years due to players on their teams that were not even bona fide students (the suspension will be lifted this fall).

IMHO now really isn't a good time to try to reactivate Iota Epsilon, at least until the athletic program is reinstated, the condemned dorms (which has been demolished) be replaced with new dorms, and there is enough momentum/interest in students attending CSU that the student enrollment reaches normal (about 3,000-3,500 students--currently it is at about 1,500 and rising).

Ouch, I knew the school had had some problems, but I didn't know it was that bad. Any suggestions for places to look for more info?

ETA: Has anyone ever considered extension efforts at Wilberforce University, which is literally across the street from Central State and has NEVER had an APO chapter?

Wilberforce is the 2nd oldest HBCU in the nation, BTW.

I've thought about Wilberforce. Its not to far from Detroit

In regard to Central, stories in the school newspaper or other locations that would give a feel for just how bad the problems were or info on whether they were serious on the idea of changing it to two year.

In regard to Wilberforce, if you've got any leads let staff know. Its in section 56, Region V.
