Sisterhood Activities

Hey girls, i am the sisterhood chair for the chapter this year. we havent really havent done any big sisterhood events in the past and i want to show everyone how i really want to be involved. Please let me know if you guys have sisterhood events in your chapters that are alot of fun. Also in our chapter we seem to have a problem with girls not wanting to participate. PLEASE give me any ideas as to what i can do to make things more apetizing to my sisters and make them want to participate. Thanks, Rachel ;)

Sisterhood ideas

Hey! I am the social chairman for my chapter, and planning sisterhoods is part of my job. :) First of all, in the social chairman's manual, there are a TON of great sisterhood ideas.... If you don't have a copy of this manual, it is available on the "Members Only" area of the Pi Phi website (an entire site, in fact, which is very helpful).

Everything I've been hearing from chapter members is that they want to do sisterhood events that don't take up their ENTIRE Saturday, or a whole evening. They want short events that don't involve leaving the campus or even the house! This is totally understandable, because of all the things Pi Phis are involved with these days. :) If you keep it short but fun, lots of girls will show up. Also, when announcing the event to the chapter at a meeting or in an e-mail, make it sound like a lot of fun. If you are really excited about it, the rest of the chapter will be, also.

Here are some sisterhoods we've done recently:

1. Right before formal recruitment, we had a "relaxation night" in our house. The girls put on soothing spa music and did manicures and pedicures, yoga, and one of the girls did back and hand massages. It was quick, fun, AND relaxing at a very stressful time. :)

2. Last Winter, we took a day trip to a nearby ski resort. Granted it did take an entire day so there was a low turnout, but the girls who went had a blast.

3. Themed movie nights: chick flick night, comedy night, horror movie night, holiday-themed movie night, etc. This is an awesome event because no one has to leave the house. Also, invite new members over to enjoy the time bonding with actives, OR invite non-members that you are interested in rushing.

4. Last Fall, we all went to a nearby lake and the planned activity was to create boats out of cardboard boxes and race them. It was hilarious! Our social chair gave out all kinds of silly award for the best decorated boat, etc.

5. We had family ethnic dinner night - every "family" within the house picked a different sort of food (Mexican, Italian, etc.) and made an appetizer, main course, or dessert, and the whole chapter pigged out together!

6. Next month, we are going to a local YMCA camp to do teambuilding activites on the high and low ropes course: ground-bound activities in the morning, and high ropes course in the afternoon for those with height issues. :) I'll have to let everyone know how it turns out....

Anyway, those are just a few ideas, but like I said, there are many more in the social chairman's manual and on the website. Hope this helped! :)

our pledge class..

has also organized our own pledge class bonding events..

we dont have a house, rather, a suite in the campus women's building w/ couches, a kitchen, tv etc... we had a night where we met and watched friends and made smores -- people could stay as little or as long as they wanted, and it was right on campus

i bought some beads in pi phi colors and we're going to have a jewelry-making night next week -- bracelets n stuff :)

we also have soph-night, junior-night, senior-night etc to get to know the other classes better

the night before initiation we have a pledge class sleepover :)

Great sisterhood activities:
  • A visit to the local coffee or ice-cream shop.
  • An ice cream social at the house
  • A game night
  • Nights--we always did Sex in the City, American Idol, OC, etc. on our big screen at the house
  • Makeup night--get a consultant to come to the house to do makeovers--fun for a week before a formal!
  • Go to a late-night dinner (I mean around 9:30 or 10:00) at Waffle House or the local Truck Stop (optional, of course, but my chapter LOVES this--maybe it's just a W&L thing though.

Our chapter has done several activities together including:

*An overnight trip to Niagara Falls, Canada
*Cookouts
*Movie Nights
*Ropes Course
*Make-up nights (when a MaryKae Consultant came to our house)

Oh I just thought of one...

Now it's a little later to do this, but keep it mind for next year. Have an Oscar part with sisters.
Make up some ballots with the nominees and then before each award the sisters will ahev to guess who will win. Who evers guess it right wins a prize. Go to a dollar store and get some little prizes, or get candy and hand them out to every winner for each award.
At the end of the night the sister or sisters with the most correct answers wins a bigger prize.

You don't have to travel anywhere (stay in the house or at a sisters apartment/house if your chapter doesn't have a house). And it doesn't have to cost that much (get every member to chip in 5 bucks or something for food and prizes)

On the same theme, the Miss America pageant is a great opportunity. Ballots can include fashion critiques as well as voting talent/ interview.... and if you search GC, you can usually find out which contestants are Pi Phis (or members of other GLOs)
