Other Anchor Lovers

Hi gang,
Somehow I stumbled on a greekchat.com thread that mentioned Alpha Kappa Phi, a New York state regional sorority founded in 1885 as the Agonian society and still informally known as the Agos. Their pin is the anchor, too! Could not find a picture of it on their Web site, but did find a photo of their house that shows an anchor on the front. http://www.geneseo.edu/~ago/photos_alumnae_1940s.php

An NPC group, Alpha Sigma Tau, named its magazine the Anchor in 1925. Interestingly enough, the 75-chapter sorority has its national headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama....although it has few Southern chapters and its only Alabama chapter is about 75 miles away.

Anybody know of any other Greek-letter groups with the anchor as a symbol?
:)

Neat! I did manage to find a picture of their pin...this is what it looks like:

I'm not sure why there are two different types...

Cool!!!

I'm an Alpha Tau and we share the anchor with you guys! I don't know why the anchor was chosen for our sorority (nor do I know if our founders knew about Delta Gamma).

Our HQ landed in Birmingham because for a while our HQ was basically in the home/basement of one of our past National Presidents who lived in Birmingham. Apparently space became available to purchase in B-ham, it was affordable, etc. and therefore it became ours! (Don't know if that's the official reason B-ham was chosen, but I do know that all of our archives and stuff resided with that National President for a while). We probably had a HQ somewhere else at one point (surely we didn't operate out of basements for 100 years!!) but I don't know where it was.

She (the past Nat. Pres.) is working on an updated history of AST, so the answers might be in there.

Just wanted to chime in!
