Pin
what do you do for pins (both for pledges and members)??? we are not lucky as nationals that they already have their special pin made :(
|
For pledging the pin/necklace changes each pledge period. Like when I pledged, we didn't have a pin, we had a gawd-awful giant wooden heart that was badly painted that we had to wear. This pledge period we had the girls have a small necklace w/a miniture rose attached to it. They also have to wear a small handmade pin made out of foam hearts w/their name, semester, and the letters on it.
Once active, we don't have anything :p We still need to find a pin maker. |
we order them from somewhere. most multi cultural/non NPC sororities just make the girls were ribbons on pins during pledging.
As far as what is on the pin themselves... that's up to you and the house. We can't dictate what goes on your pin because you it has to mean something to your sisterhood, not to what everyone else will think. It's like asking for ritual ideas really. Make is special and unique to your house. Example: our pledge pin is a blue diamond with a gold rose and chi delta written on it. The active badge is our crest. |
You will need to design your pins, then find a good jeweler and have them made.
The design is up to you. It can be something as simple as ribbons in your colors for new members and your letters for initiates, or you can incorporate symbols, gemstones, etc. As chideltjen said, your pin should be meaningful to your sisterhood. Check out other GLOs' pins for inspiration, but in the end you'll have to put together your own design. My local had a simple badge for initiates - the letters in sequence in silver with an amethyst (our gem). Pledges got a ring with amethyst and malachite (our colors were green and purple). This was a deliberate decision on the part of the founders, to have a ring, since everyone else had pledge pins. Hope this helps. :) |
Our flower is the Morning Glory, so what we do for pledge pins is we buy fake Morning Glories from the local craft store and put them on safety pins. For sisters' pins, we have ours made by Masters of Design.

aephi alum,
I like the idea of rings, but were they more expensive than a pin or necklace? Where did you get them made? *Siggie Jilly* |
Our active pins were designed by our founders and we had a jeweler make them for us (we re-order them when need more)
As for our pledge pin....What i really like about this is that every pledge class has different ones. We leave it up to the New Member Educator to design the pin. For example this semester, out Theta Class (we are young still) has small letter beads that spelling out THETA glued on a pin. Its kinda hard to describe but its unique which makes it creative and special. In the past we have used ribbons but even with the ribbons they are still different in each class. |
