Homophobia in the devine nine
 

I am shocked that in the year 2001 people still have ignorant views towards homosexuals and bi-sexuals. All of our organizations were founded on service and love for fellow man. I don't understand how a members sexual prefrence effects there dedication and value to their sorority/fraternity. I believe people really just need to get over the fact that homosexuals and bi-sexuals are in their organizations. I know a que who came out to one of his line brothers and now the whole chapter wants nothing to do with them. they shun him and don't even acknoledge him as a member. He is so hurt. We are people to and we have feelings. I would like to hear more from other non-heterosexual fraternity members and sororities members to speak out against this evil and not let this type of behavior go unchecked. I know for myself personally, I do not believe homophobia has any place in AKA!

I am a heterosexual female and applaude your honesty in your preference. I guess I am some what liberal with my feelings on this subject compared to other Soror's. Like you stated your sexual preference does not stop your heart and soul from being committed to ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA INC.. I wish I could help you in your search for other sorors but the one that I did know I lost contact with her awhile ago.

I saw this discussion on a previous thread, but the thread was closed. I think this discrimination against non-heterosexuals in VERY important and needs to be talked about MORE. COMMUNICATION is very important to the healing of other in-the-closet members of BGLOs. They must SPEAK OUT and STAND UP and stop biting there tongue. I was once shy and quiet but I just got sick of hiding who i was. I don't throw it in peoples face but I make no effort to hide it. I think I am unique in understanding both perspectives because I am bi-sexual. I am Speaking out for the ones that are scared to speak out. I hope to bring courage to them and to let them know they are NOT ALONE!!!UNITED WE STAND...DIVIDED WE FALL (Hetero,Homo, and Bi)

hello BothsWays and welcome to greekchat...they are many people that feel the same way as you on this topic in this forum. it is a shame that bruh was shunned by his frat bruhs. many people forget the oaths that they take and can't seem to get past the sexuality thing. i know several greeks in all of the BGLOS that are OUT...some shunned others haven't. i also know greeks that are too scared to come out and shouldn't feel that way.

my own opinion is this...being greek is a business to some...you keep your personal business to yourself until your 9 to 5 is over. after work you do what you want.

I for one happend to love men but, a human-being is a human-being. You are my soror just like any other AKA and your preference does not matter. Those that judge others will be judge by God twice. As long as you are working to preserve our Ivy your sexual preference is not an issue.

we all have issues, the divine 9 is made up of a whole lot of sinners (including myself)so i don't think we should be discriminating, unless their sexual sin deters them/us from the business of the organization it shouldn't be a problem.

Greetings My Fellow Sisters and Brothers in Greek-Lettered NPHC Affiliate Organizations,

Recently, there have been a number of malicious fliers/e-mails sent through many list serves depicting men of our beloved organizations as gay or bisexual. These fliers are a disservice to our organizations AND members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities. Although, it would be ignorant to believe that our organizations do not have members who have different sexual orientations, it is malicious to create FICTITIOUS documents depicting these differences.

The greatest disservice, however, is the fact that we continue to support this madness by sending these messages to more and more list serves. We are intelligent, college-educated men and women. I ask that if any inappropriate messages and/or fliers arrive in your electronic mailbox, that you delete it and send a separate message to the sender that it is inappropriate to send these type of messages. I thank you in advance for heeding this message. Silence can be a sign of acceptance.

Not likely because people thrive off of BS.
I heard something on the Wendy Williams show yesterday and I got on the computer and researched and found her statement to be completely false. When we get forwards that seem outrageous the most intelligent move is to research them. I have realized that the BS (fake) emails are the ones that circulate the most :rolleyes:

Hopefully.....I just received a copy of this letter in an email. :eek:

I was so happy to see this email. This summer has been crazy with the amount of emails that degrade our organizations.

I just saw the flier and it didn't dawn on me that this is one of the fliers being referenced in this e-mail. It was absolutely ridiculous and I can't imagine how folks have time to think of such things. I mean, don't these folks have jobs, families, etc.

The flier was posted in the Alpha forum. When I received this email, the thread was deleted. So, I found a thread regarding homophobia and thought it was a good place to include it.
