Expansion Thread
What schools would you like to see ZTA colonize or recolonize at?
Here are my choices: 1. Ole Miss- It would be nice to see a recolonization although I don't think it will happen anytime soon. 2. University of Kentucky- We don't have any chapters left in the state. :( 3. UCLA, USC, San Diego- Compared to other sororities, we have very few chapters in California. Many of our Cali chapters are now defunct. 4. Ivy League- We don't have any chapters at Ivy League schools (although we had one at Penn that is now defunct). |
Definitely the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL. That's where I'm from and the school has about 20,000 students and I want to make that happen when I become an alum
|
Also, Troy State University in Troy, AL.....if we had a chapter there and at South Al...Zeta would be all over the big schools in Alabama-
|
I completly agree about our chapters in Cali. I, myself, would like to see the University of Tampa open the ZTA chapter again. I doubt it will happen since we just had a chapter colonize at USF which is 20 minutes away, just on the other side of Tampa. But UT is a great school and ZTA would do very well there.

I "third" the vote for more chapters in Ca. It's frustrating when you tell people you're a ZTA and they've never heard of us before.....we're only at 3 Cali. schools now! Unfortunatly, I don't think its going to happen anytime soon....we recently sold our house at UCLA.
It would also be cool to have a chapter at an Ivy league school. |
I don't want ZTA to recolonize at Ole Miss. It has been done numerous times, all to no avail. It was great that I became a ZTA at Ole Miss. But, having a charter pulled is one of the most painful things I have ever been through.
I truly believe that Ole Miss is one place we should not spend time and effort at trying to overcome the negative stereotype. I think we should focus our efforts elsewhere. Read the Ole Miss thread. We've been there and tried that several times. Mississippi is a very unforgiving place. (But, I must add that the Miss. State chapter is awesome.) http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...threadid=40544 |
Browneyedgirl,
I don't think it would be a bad idea to try and colonize at Southern Miss. The ladies at Miss. State could certainly help with rush and support. If ZTA is going to be successful in Mississippi, it would probably be at S. Miss. I am not sure if there has ever been a colony/chapter there... I don't think so. I know we used to have one at Delta State (don't quote me on the name still being the same...) in MS. One of our advisors was a ZTA there. I would like to see expansion when possible and/or appropriate at: Vanderbilt U of KY Western Kentucky University California: a multitude of schools U of TN- Chattanooga Austin Peay State U. Michigan schools |
You never know...they could be looking at this thread. :)

I would love to see ZTA re-open the Alpha Kappa chapter at University of Illinois and Beta Rho in Manitoba, Canada. I miss having an active collegiate chapter in Canada!
|
Great thread!
I would like to see Omega chapter at SMU re-open and we definitely could use more Western chapters. Of course, we always need more chapters in Texas, right?! j.k. So...which one of you is going to apply for the national extension director position? Hmm? I'm more focused on alumnae expansion so I'll leave collegiate for someone else. |

I definately second Krissy's suggestions for Chapters at Troy State and South Alabama. We will have all corners covered then! Plus Theta Nu could interact with Troy's chapter seeing as how we are't that far apart!

NYU
Please excuse me for crashing your forum. Has ZTA thought about reviving your old NYU chapter by getting one of the locals to affiliate?
The NYU sorority system had completely disintegrated by the late 70s. Starting in the 80s, sororities, mostly locals started to pop up. One of the locals recently affiliated with AST. There are still 4 locals. The greek life web site is: http://www.nyu.edu/pages/osa/greeklife/org.html |
That wouldn't be a bad idea either. We only have 1 ZTA chapter in New York (Rochester Institute of Technology).
When ZTA looks for an area to colonize, I think our main criteria is alum support. Having a strong alum base is a huge necessity if a chapter is going to survive. I think this is the main reason why ZTA has concentrated on colonizing specifically in Florida, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. We have a lot of alum support in these areas. I'm going to guess that we don't have a big alum base in New York but I could be wrong. It would definitely be nice to see a ZTA chapter at NYU. We have a lot of chapters in New Jersey and I'm sure they could help out! Russell- I didn't know we had a chapter once at NYU. Do you happen to know when it was closed? |
