Milestone birthdays AFTER your 21st...
O.K., we all know that a person's 21st birthday is really special, because you can finally go out a do all the things you did ILLEGALLY now LEGALLY! ;)
But what about the milestone birthdays after that??? Your 25th, 30th, others after that??? What did you do to celebrate??? How did you feel about it??? Is it different if you are married or have a partner versus being single??? Even those of you who are not yet 30-What do you look forward to doing??? I really don't want a party-I'd rather take a trip somewhere and just have fun rather than a being with a group of people. Look forward to hearing about other peoples experiences and thoughts... |
I kind of get hung-up on the 9s. I don't like thinking that the coming year means the decade is turning. I SWORE 40 wasn't too big a deal, but I was lying to myself! THIS birthday was a bummer and it may last one more year-till my NEXT B-day! I share the same day with...UFPIKE! LOL!!!!
What a lot of young people can't believe (I certainly didn't) is that your 50s are probably the BEST time of your life. The kids are gone, the flames heat up, and you are a dating couple again. I can't speak from the perspective of a single person, it may not be a comforting feeling. I don't know. If you asked me what some of the "coolest" B-days were, I'd say 27-no longer a kid, now a young woman. 33 and 36-GREAT ages 42-OK I think the real mark of a B-day change comes when, in the morning, the first thing you look at is the Obit page! Try not to do that. I had to way too soon because we deal with elderly people. Depressing! |
I'm gonna have a Quarter of a Century Old party on my 25th ;) And in celebration of lowered car insurance, I'll be smiling tons!
As for the other milestone birthdays - I'll come up with something when they get here. |
Thruthfully, the only ones that stick out to me are because others made a big deal of them.
Twenty-five was a "quarter of a centruy old," and then nobody was supposed to "trust anyone over thirty." Actually, none has been particularly traumatic -- they've all been fine. I do like the joke that a friend of mine used to use: "If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself." |
Awww...great question! My 30th is only 8 months away and I am doing a lot to celebrate!
First, I am currently training for a marathon in which I will be running in June. Next, I am going skydiving (again) this summer. For my actually 30th birthday weekend I will be celebrating it with friends in Las Vegas. AND finally, to end the year perfectly, I will have one last celebration in NYC on New Years. WAHOO!!! Can't get much better than that. |
2004 is the year me and the 3 best friends turn 25. Because we all had ishtty birthdays last year we're all throwing each other our own birthday extravaganzas. The first one turns 25 next month, the next in July, and mine will be in August.
I'll get the pre-funk on two weeks before my birthday in Chicago with my sisters! |
I celebrated my 21st in January 1994 by going for dinner and seeing Tommy on Broadway. I celebrated my 25th with just dinner. My 30th was dinner and going to the ballet to see the Nutcracker.

25, lower insurance and you can rent car anywhere. :)

All of my birthdays have been celebrated quietly other than 18 and 21. I'm slightly freaking because next month is 39 and I agree with JAM that the 9's are weirder because that next decade is really looming.
So far, I like each decade more. The great thing about getting older is that you get more and more comfortable and confident in your own skin. The 20's are best described as "turbulent" because you go through so many life changes. I graduated from college, got first REAL job, got married, got divorced, got married again, had first child.. holy cow what a busy busy time. The 30's are better, more stable. Even though I changed careers it didn't feel like a big deal. I have the resources and ability to live the life I want. The thing that continues to amaze me is that I don't feel as old as I am (but I think I'm starting to look my age for the first time ever). The 40's will have some challenges as my kids will become teenagers, but by 49, my son will be away at college and the 50's become my "me" era, I think! Dee |

I thought turning 40 was gonna be rough, but it wasn't. I have a feeling that for me turning 46 might be kinda traumatic because it'll push me a little closer to 50, but I'll be over that by the time I turn 50! :) |
21 was not that big of a milestone for me actually. 19 was! here in Ontario the legal drinking age is 19. Actually 18 was big deal. I could vote, finally get into R-rated movies without the hassle of stupid ushers who were obviously younger than I was.
It'll be another year and a half before I turn 25. |
i'm looking forward to my insurance going down when i turn 25 this year :)

40
I have a milestone birthday coming up this fall. But I'm calling myself 40 already.
:D |
Well my 23rd was a blast. Just a great time. I had a quarter-life crisis after the 25th, and honestly each year it just keeps getting worse! I turn 29 this year, and I am having a huge party in Vegas as it's my last birthday before the big 30. I never thought I would be so hung up on age, but I detest getting older--I actually think I will be one of those people who lies about their age! Thankfully I still pass for 22. I embrace all of my experiences that I have had throughout life, I am just not real excited about accepting that we get older.
