A-Rod Might Be Moving to the Bronx

Quote:

NEW YORK -- The Yankees are in serious discussions with the Rangers to acquire Alex Rodriguez and move him to third base, where he'd play alongside shortstop Derek Jeter, if you are to believe Newsday.

The 600,000-plus circulation newspaper on suburban Long Island, N.Y., reports in its Saturday editions that A-Rod is desperate to get out of Texas and would be willing to switch positions.

The New York Post, which is usually leading the way when sensational stories pop up, is reporting today only that the Yankees have asked the Rangers about such a trade, in which Alfonso Soriano would leave New York.

That would be so sick if A-Rod and Derek Jeter play together.

I can't believe that they are letting Soriano go. To bad they can't trade an outfielder for him.

IT is a done deal. Sad that Soriano is going. But, A-Rod and Jeter combo is going to be sick.

I'll second that. I can't wait till the season starts, though I am sad to see Soriano leave. I wish we could have traded an outfielder for him, but these things have a way of working themselves out for the best.

As a "Rangers fan" (because I live a mile from the Ballpark), I am upset that A-Rod won't be in Texas anymore. He is a phenomenal ballplayer and a good person.

However, this trade is better than the Manny for A-Rod deal in my opinion because Soriano is legitimately an MVP candidate for years to come. I'd much rather have some cost savings and a halfway comparable player and get A-Rod the heck outta Dodge.

But I won't be able to root for the Yanks now...damn Evil Empire!

A beautiful thing

To see Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter (two of the best-looking baseball players out there ;) ) playing in the Bronx, but this puts tremendous pressure on the Yankees to win. I'm not sure of the pitching, though. Kevin Brown will have to be rejuvenated.

agreed. I'd like to see Kevin regain his form. The yankees don't have to worry too much about Hitting, but They seriously need another starter or two to solidfy their rotation.

pitching won't be too bad at all - vasquez put up very good numbers last year (ignore the win-loss), and having gordon and quantrill in the bullpen will make a difference.

i cannot wait to see A-Rod in pinstripes...I'm so pumped for the season to start, this is amazing to have the best player in baseball (maybe tied with Barry) as a Yankee.

Rudey 02-17-2004 10:15 PM

Will he be just as good if he changes his position?

This guy is a little overpaid - even if he is considered the best player in the game right now.

--Awesome article I saw a little while ago about how this was just another "win" against Boston.

The only real difference between the positions is that the third baseman has a little less field to cover and to stay in the proxmity of the bag. Im kinda surprised from a talent standpoint why they didnt move Jeter to third, considering his relative mediocrity at that position. Even though hes fairly popular in New York, they know that A-Rod would be a better shortstop.

Oh, and if 80 million doesnt 'rejuvenate' Kevin Brown, I dont know what will.

KSigkid 02-17-2004 11:15 PM

He'll be fine playing third; I would have put him at shortstop, but he'll make up for Jeter's lack of range on at least one side of the bag.

He's definitely overpaid - but the Yankees are only picking up part of the tab; for them he'll cost less over the next seven years than both Giambi and Jeter.
