Telemarketer slammed the phone on me

Yes, this is true. I ticked off the telemarketer.
The telemarketer told me I was approved for a $2500 Visa credit card. All I need to do was pay a one-time fee of $299. I told him to mail me the information. He said, his supervisor will approved the transaction. He said, is it a trust issue. I said, you know I don't get a copy of those recordings you claim are for training purposes, then I heard a click.

Just last week we had a telemarketer call us from MCI. He was trying to get us to switch our long distance carrier. I was very polite, and ran a whole sentence together so he would know that I was not interested. I told him "We're satisfied with our current long distance carrier, so we're not interested and thank you for calling."

Now I know he had a job to do, but like I said, I wasn't interested. He then asked me who we had for our long distance service - I told him - and he keeps on talking. So I repeated myself.

This young buck wouldn't take no for an answer, so I handed the phone to my husband. He listened to this guy for about 2 seconds (literally!) then hung the phone up.

Believe it or not, I think they called back the next several days during the day when we weren't home.

This sounds more like a scam. Good for you for not falling for it.

The number did not show up on my caller ID. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't FCC required telemarketers to show their name and numbers on the caller ID.

I don't answer any UNAVAILABLE calls. On the chance that I do and I hear "Mrs." or they mispronounce my last name, I state, "you have the wrong number" and hang up. When I did used to get telemarketing calls, I would state before they could finish their spiel, "no thank you" and hang up.

I looooathe telemarketers and telemarketing. If I want it, I will find you.

Telemarketers are getting so bold.

Not only that, I'm tired of them calling me at 8:55pm on weekdays (no lie) and 8:00 on Saturday morning. I will quickly tell them that I would not call them at almost 9pm at night and hang up.

Sorry for crashing, but...

When someone calls me about switching telephone companies, I tell them that I don't believe in telephones, that they're the tool of Satan. They either get the joke or hang up on me!

But that is my point. It was probably not a legit telemarketing firm--it was a scammer who does not have a legit business and thus is not regulated. That one-time fee for the credit card is the tip off. That is what they were after.

When credit card companies require a payment up front that is what becomes your guarantee against the credit limit and it is done for folx trying to repair their credit by establishing a new credit rating. So for example, you send Visa $1,000, you get a credit card with a limit of $1,000. Once you establish a good record of charges and on-time payments they convert the card to the reular kind.

OMG that is so annoying. 8 in the morning is so NOT the time to call me. I'm really thinking of putting that Privacy Block thing on my phone.

Hmmm

I tell them once and only once very politely I'm not interested and take my name & number off of your calling list. If they say anything other then ok, I go the heck off......................

My approach is similar to your approach Special, with one twist, while I'm telling them that I'm not interested and to take me off the list, I'm already hanging up the phone. I'm not even sticking around to hear a reply b/c guess what, when I told the person that I wasn't interested and to take my name off the list, it wasn't a question - therefore, not even waiting for a reply. LOL

Now, that's too damn early in the morning. I wonder what time zone they were in. Well it really doesn't matter. It is still too damn early to call anyone about some crap they won't buy for themselves.
