Valentine's Day horror stories
C'mon, most of us have at least one.....
I'll start. I have never really had a GOOD V-day, but last year was particularly heinous. First of all, I had to work that night. But I was hoping for a cool surprise from this guy I was dating, and he e-mailed me early in the day to see if he could come over to my apt. before I went to work so he could give it to me. Oh great, I thought. Flowers! Well, he came over bearing......a pumpkin-flavored gob. Now, I don't expect guys to spend loads of money on me or anything like that, but I was sort of hoping for something a little more romantic than a gob. I worked until about midnight that night, and after work one of my girlfriends called me to see if I wanted to go out. The boy was not yet 21, so he couldn't come with us......plus, he wasn't OFFICIALLY my b/f and had issues with us going out together on V-Day. Long story. So she and I went to the bar and I drank two Long Islands and an Alabama Slammer in a half hour's time. She drank an entire pitcher of beer in the same amount of time. An hour later, we were taking turns holding back each other's hair. Btw, things with that guy ended about a week later! Anyone else have a sucky V-Day story??? |
What's a gob?
|
It's kind of like two big cookies with cream in the middle.......like a pumpkin gob is two pumpkin-flavored cookie things with cream in between.....also known as a whoopie pie in some parts of the country.
They are good, but as a V-day present?! |
My sorority had the Valentine's Day Curse. People tended to break up around V-Day. Which was great, because Anti-Valentine's-Day became an annual AEPhi event! If you're single, what better way to spend V-Day than bonding with your sisters and with your friends Ben and Jerry... or Jack, Jim, and Johnnie ;)
During my junior year of college, I thought I'd escaped the curse, only to be dumped 3 days later by IM. During my senior year, though, my relationship survived the curse... so I married the guy. :D |
My freshman year of college I was excited for V day because I was just starting to date this guy and we were going out for dinner with a bunch of our friends who were also dating. It was my first date on valentines. Since we were just starting we gave each other cards. I made this cute little card about I'm glad we're getting to know each other etc and he gave me . . .
A Friend Card. It said i'm glad we're such good friends, and he never called me again after that evening. so much for my first valentines date!!! |
It was my first V-day married to my husband and I had just had our daughter a month before V-day. He'd been working long hours, 6 days a week while I was home with a colicky baby who screamed for hours on end. I was exhausted from nursing her every hour and a half. But, it was Valentine's Day and even though I couldn't get out to get him anything, I made him a heart shaped brownie in between baby screaming. He got home from work at 8 pm that night. He had nothing, no card, nothing. He said he tried to get flowers but everything was closed. As if he didn't know the day was coming? We were newlyweds!!
The only thing worse was when Mother's Day came along.. my first as a Mom and I got no recognition at all for that one. The beginning of the end of a marriage that went on for 7 more years! Dee |
My boyfriend at the time was sick on Valentine's Day. He wanted to basically stay home and I wanted to go out. So we kept our reservation at this fancy restaurant and basically didn't talk to each other during the meal. It was awful. Then we couldn't hang out after together because I had to do a ton of homework due the next day. It was pretty bad and we broke up shortly after.

Gosh the idea of you women getting dumped made me happy...I don't know why.

I'm a dumper, not a dumpee...
Dee I don't put up with any crap. |
I broke my foot the day before Valentine's Day a few years ago...But when my bf at the time found out (it was long distance) He came & surprised me and took me out :) So it was bad that I broke my foot, but it turned out ok. ;)

as wierd as this may sound to some of you... i lived this v-day in fear that my boyfriend was going to propose to me! we've been dating for over 2 years now, we love each other to death, we've talked about marriage - but there is no way in HELL that i am ready! we're both graduating in may, i know he already has a job and i was really nervous that he was going to do it!
i finally asked him after dinner if he was planning anything - wink wink - and thank god he laughed at me and said "dream on lady - youre going to have to wait at least another year" music to my ears :) we're such dorks! |
