Hello all!

Hi ladies-

I came across BSP while surfing the internet, it sounds really neat. I emailed International and got a quick response. They want to put my name in the prospective member database. I guess my only reservation is the same as many others I've seen on this board. I would like to be in a chapter with sisters my own age. I'm in my mid 20s. I already work with women who are 15-25 years older than me, and I'm finding it hard to relate to them. I would appreciate any advice you could give me....Thanks!

Hooray! Another newbie. We're on a roll right now:D

Welcome to the board, and I wish you lots of luck in your search. I was in the same boat almost 2 years ago. I stumbled onto Beta while browsing the Internet, and I fell in love with the organization! There were no young chapters in my area (I'm 24), so I started one. The experience has been wonderful.:) If nothing turns up in your neighborhood, I say FRIENDLY VENTURE!

Thanks!

Thank you for your support! I'm looking to meet new people in the area, since I know almost no one!! I live near Portland, OR. Can any of you who have a Torch tell me how many chapters are around?

Thanks a bunch!!! :p

Hi amgn253,

I hope you are able to find the right chapter or FV like Erica mentioned above. We now have a new ROJ chapter (ranging from 20-35) in our City Council so I plan to transfer just before the sorority year ends.

Michelle...congrats on reaching ROJ. Also, good luck with the new chapter. I'll pm you in a bit.

amgn253...I found the following listings for Portland. Keep in mind, just because a chapter is listed in the Torch doesn't mean it is very active. I've listed the star rating so that you can get a sense of how active the chapters might be. Also, a chapter without any stars might still be a great chapter. My chapter has zero stars, and I think we are pretty great :) We just didn't turn in our Chapter Yardstick last year...bad Delta Pi :) Chapters with star ratings are just really on the ball!

Hey amgn253!

I'm in the same situation. I would love to join a land chapter and am currently looking for membership into one, but I think the youngest group on average is like 34 and I'm 22. Too bad I'm not in Oregon or you are here (Louisiana) or we could friendly venture together. Good luck on your search. Oh and Michelle IO forgot to tell ya....Congrats on ROJ.

You ladies rock!!

Thanks everyone for the info and support!! I'm getting excited and nervous about having a chapter contact me!! I don't know if I can wait 6 weeks...or so, however long it will take someone to get a hold of me. Hope it's OK if I keep coming to you all with questions and concerns. Thanks for helping out a newbie!!

It is exciting!!!:) :D Joining Beta Sigma Phi has been the best thing about moving up here to Massachusetts. When I move back to PA, I really hope to start a new chapter, so I'll begin another exciting "chapter" of my life...(sorry for the really bad pun).

I hope that you find a wonderful group quickly, but remember that not all chapters are actively rushing. Some don't rush at all (which is really sad:( ). Try to be patient, but I know it is hard. I got so impatient that I just went ahead and started a new chapter. Spring is usually a good rush time, so hopefully you'll get a response very soon.

Big BETA Hugs for you!!!!

Erica

Websites

I've been looking up a lot of stuff on BSP, but I can't really find anything on-line that could give me a clue to what the chapters in my area are like or about any chapter possibly in a surrounding city of PDX. I know I'm probably jumping the gun, but talking with all of you and reading the other posts on this board really makes me want to become a Beta!! It's so unfortunate...I've seen some of you are from the Seattle area, and I just moved away from there 5 months ago. Oh well. It's only been a week since I submitted my info to Int'l, so I think I have a bit more waiting to do. Sorry so long, but thanks to you all!! :D ;) :)

I think one of the real beauties of our sorority is that a new chapter can be formed when the needs of sisters and PNMs aren't being met. If you don't have any luck finding an existing chapter, friendly venturing is always an option :)
