Crush Parties
Hey - I was wondering how ya'll set up ya'lls crush parties. I know some of my girls are all about asking specific people while others would just like to hang out with friends. The idea came acrss of nametags with things that went together on them and do that, but I wasn't real comfortable with this whole idea. I don't have a crush per se and wouldn't want to make any of my guy friends uncomfortable. How do ya'll see about going with this situation.

One year we paired up sisters and set each other up with a guy. If the person didn't have a guy they were interested they could just invite a friend or (as a last resort) another sister. It takes some coordination and usually a few back up guys to make it work but it worked great for us-I was set up with the hottie I had a crush on!!!

our crush parties were similar to date parties but less formal |(even though ours are semi formal- i geuss this is just a party lol) anyway- i've also heard of screw your sister- where a sister gets someone else- and then they invite a guy for them- and the sister doesn't know who the guy is until the party- so it can go badly if the sister doesn't like the guy- or it can go awesome if she does- the idea is to bring all different guys you normally don't chill with- but make it big so guys don't feel weird lol. i've also heard of something similar to screw your sister where everyone writes down 3 guys on a piece of paper and then that paper gets passed to someone and that sister has to go and find the first guy- and if he can't go- then the secondone- and so one- but the sister won't know who is coming until the party- idk its pretty fun.... i don't know if i explained it well enough- but i know there are a lot of forums and stuff onit on here- just do a search- hope it helps

the way it was done at my school is that all the girls in the chapter would write down the name of two or three guys they wanted to invite. once the list was all compiled huge posters would be made. at the top of the posters was the sorority letters for who was hosting it (usually two or three chapters paired together for these), the date, location, time, etc. the posters were then hung all around campus for probably about two weeks before the party. guys would then have to check all the different posters to see which ones they were invited to and then just show up. we always loved it, since the guys never knew who invited them.

When I was in the house, we would all turn in a list of guy's names (I think the max was 4) to the social committee, along with what house the guy belonged to, or his phone number if he wasn't in a fraternity. They would compile all the names and send our pledges (in pairs) to the fraternity houses during dinner to read off the names of the guys in that house who were invited. Committee members would call all the guys who weren't in fraternities and invite them. We would always rent a big place and have a band... Crush parties were the best!! :) I think my chapter does it slightly differently now, but I'm not sure of the specifics.

ok, well here's how the krush party went last night. Me and 3 buddys arrived late expecting everything to be going....well no, it wasnt...The whole thing reminded me of a highschool dance...people standing around not doin much. So well, we left and came back a hour or so later..and then most everyone was gone so i talked to some of the girls and thanked them for inviting me and then we took off for good...
so im not sure how much more fun you could make them...maybe some games or somethin? I duno... but i also attended another sorrorties date dash the previous night and it was basically the same thing, So...i have no advice here i guess. |
for crush mixers here, each girl gets to put down the names of 2 guys... our social chair compiles them... then we put an ad with all the guys names, our letters, when/where the mixer is in our school newspaper! it's a big hit with the frat boys and the girls! all the frats count to see which had the most boys crushed and stuff! hope that helps!!

We have our date party at the end of the month. The sorority is going serenading tonight for some of the dates. The girls can invite up to 2 guys for the party. The place where we have the party serves really cheap but strong drinks so everyone pretty much have a great time.
However we do have some sisters who refuse to invite a date because they want to steal other sisters date (which is not very sisterly if you ask me and I wish that they would just stay home they ruin the night) |
I'm not a big fan of crush parties, but we held one last year & this year.
How we went about it was to write down the names & contact info. of 2 or 3 different guys, and then our social chair contacted the guys. You wouldn't know who your crush was going to be until you got there, unless it was your long-term boyfriend. From what I can tell, this year's went off without a hitch! :) |
When I was in college, we called this date function "Find a Mister For Your Sister."
We would set up two large sized posters in our TV room. One poster was labeled "The Sisters." This listed the name of every sister. It also had a blank space next to each name. If you had a boyfriend or your own date, you wrote in "Boyfriend," etc. This way, sisters could see who was available for being set-up! The second poster was labeled "The Misters." If someone wanted to set you up, or you wanted her to, she would write her name in the blank space next to yours (so everyone knew you were being set up with someone) on The Sisters poster. Then, the sister setting you up would write the name of the boy and his affiliation on the the poster labeled "The Misters." The Social Chair takes the list of Misters and prepares the invitations. Then we go to each fraternity house to serenade the fraternity and give out our invitations, announce the event, etc. For the actual evening, we would go roller skating. It was a lot of fun! One year we went to Disney Quest. Before each date function, everyone comes to the house for "Mocktails" and to pose for photos. Naturally, we do cute t-shirts and put out a banner outside the house that reads the name and date of the event. It's a lot of fun! |
