We are trying to get a new website for our group up but none of us are overly computer savy when it comes to designing professional looking pages. Anyone know a good place for free webspace and/or know anyone on here that is good at designing such things...

If no one knows how to program using HTML in your chapter, you can use Adobe Page Mill or I believe windows comes with a web publisher called Front Page, I think. It's easy because it shows you everything you're doing as you do it, so you can get a feel of what the page will look like.

I would recommend finding someone who knows about webpage publishing to help you with the filenames and folders and things like that, and help you keep them consistent so you don't have dead links or graphics that dont' show up.

I would also recommend trying to get hosting through your school rather than using tripod or geocities or something like that. When I did our webpage I used CuteFTP to transfer the files from my computer to the school's server.

Also try contacting your alumnae--they're in a good position to know people who can hook you up with web space.

There may be some professional web designers among your alumnae too!

I just created my company's website. I found a great deal on
Yahoo. We pay $20.00 for www.mycompay.com and get 15 email address. You can purchase more if needed. Yahoo's webpage builder is very easy to use and the pages look professional. they also offer great tech help. Check it out.

I designed our sorority web site using Flash MX. I learned it on my own, wasn't that complicated. Some great books are the HOTT- Hands on Training series. They have them for a whole bunch of programs and it steps you through everything. The site I made is:

I have completely redone our chapter's entire website as well as the Panhell website at my school. While I am HTML savvy, I didn't have to use it when I used www.geocities.com It gives you a completely templated format if you want, or you can do your own with picking your own background, text, formatting. My best web site advice: Copy/Paste.

Find a sight you like. Click on View: Source on your top menu. Copy it all and Paste it into an HTML editor. Then use their code as the basis of your page.

By doing this, you will slpwly start to learn HTML and will get really good at trouble-shooting.

I suggest using an editor like Dreamweaver (personal favorite), but you can also use front page, what ever...as long as it has both an html editor and a visual editor.
