Age difference

My mom told me it was funny I am so supportive of gay marriages and interracial marriages but so against people with HUGE age gap getting married.......i prefer no more than 5 years......10 years is a big TABOO with me...... how about you? what is the maximum age difference between you and your (current or former) partner?? I have dated young guys but maximum 3 years younger and 4 years older.

I used to think that way when I was younger. But then as I grew older I became friends with people who were 10 sometimes 15 years older than me and I noticed there was no such thing as an age gap, and that we got along regardless of our age. The biggest age difference I've ever had was 15 years, and it never mattered that he was significantly older than me. The relationship didn't work out, but we're still friends, and that's what matters.

I just realized H is going to be 40 this year.

I think when you are younger age is a big factor that the gap widens as you (and your peers) mature.

I agree that age differences matter less and less the older one gets, but any more than 5 years personally makes me uncomfortable. I've been asked out by men as old as 36 and 37 (I am 23) and even if they are nice, professional men, not dirty old creeps, it still weirds me out. But that's just me.

Ditto to what's been said. I will usually not date anyone over 40 but that all depends and younger just depends as well. To me, it's all about attitude and not age.

I do tend to stay away from men who LOOK significantly older than they are (that's more than just a little graying). My genes will always have me looking younger than I am so I'd prefer a similar person.

I love it. I get older and can convince girls we have something in common so I can use their young bodies as I see fit and get rid of them whenever. All I have to do is falunt some money, some power, etc.

You remind me of Matthew McConaughey's character in "Dazed and Confused"

"I love highschool girls. I get older and they stay the same age."

I don't think age differences are that big of a deal as long as they aren't like 20 or 30 years older. That is a little strange.

My general rule for dating is 7 years in either direction. I am 30 now, so my range would be 23-37. However, the last person I had a fling with was 8 years older...not a huge variation from the range. I could never date anyone old enough to be my father, though. That would be too weird.

Ditto. Joe Namath rules.

When I was younger I felt the same way. Now that I am much older, I have no problems with being with an older man (my husband is almost 7 1/2 years older than me). I must admit I PERSONALLY would be hesitant dating a man that was a lot younger than me. I think it is cool that women have the cajones to date a man that is MUCH younger than them. Hell, men have been doing that isht for years!

Taualumna 02-06-2004 04:22 PM

For me, a guy 5-6 years older is ideal, though I've liked guys up to 10 years my senior. I'm 24 right now, so I probably wouldn't go too much younger (probably no more than 2-3 years right now).

My current and I are seperated by nine years.

I love that he is mature, stable, has his shit together and some amaaaaaaazing stories to tell.

I never thought I would date someone with that kind of age gap, but in this case I am really dating the person, not his age. I don't think I would be comfortable dating a younger man. As I am 24 I would be picking them right out of the cradle!

My sweetie is the best! :D

Is this the 'distraction' that you've mentioned? Good for you!

My current is significantly older, and I don't care. He makes me happy. :D

Myself, personally, I like to date guys about my age - not younger. But my dad and my step mom are 14 years apart and PERFECT for each other! To each their own.
