2-6-04 Wear Red Day

__________________________________________________ ______________

Friday, February 6, 2004, is National Wear Red Day!!!

A day when people nationwide will take women's health to heart by wearing red to show
their support for raising awareness that heart disease is the #1 killer
of women in the United States. By showing off a favorite red dress,
shirt, or tie, Americans will unite in the national movement to give
women a personal and urgent wake-up call about their risk of heart disease.

wellllll, can I wear PINK?
You know it's the red and white combo? :p :D

All the ladies in my office will be wearing red tomorrow in honor of the day. My mother and her sisters are going to the heart screening and seminar downtown since all three of them want to know more since there are cerrtain risk factors in our family.

Sorors,

You know we make any color look good.Red is just another term for an INTENSIFIED shade of PINK! ;) :D

No comment on the color thang!:D

Seriously though, I have been diagnosed with partially blocked arteries and am the proud owner of stents. I am not overweight and there is no history of heart disease in my family and my cholesterol levels are good. But I am a smoker and have high blood pressure (as with most of the members of my family.) It was purely by happenstance that I got the diagnosis. I can pin point the cause of mine--I have to stop smoking and excercise more. But it is not that easy for other women who have no obvious risk factors.

Ladies, get your cholesterol and blood pressure checked regularly regardless of your age. As women, we internalize a lot of life's stressors and that has a direct affect on our hearts. We also tend to ignore the signs our bodies are giving to us. I know most of you are under 35 but it is never too early to start taking better care of yourself.

i actually work in a cardiovascular division of a rather large hospital, and this was all over the place last friday. we all got red dress pins to wear and there were informations tables all over about heart disease, etc. hopefully it brings more attention to this situation.
