What are some good theme parties to throw?
We havn't had a social or party on campus since this semster. We were thinking of a Toga Party but we want soemthing that would catch peoples attention and bring a good turn out...any good ideas????
p.s. I am still very new to the greek system so dont' laugh when I ask thist but what does PNM stant for?? |
PNM means Potential New Member. Basically a person going through the Recruitment process. In some organizations this person is still called a Rushee.
As for party ideas. First check out the social forum and check out the ideas listed in a variety of threads. Some more unique ideas I've heard of in the past year.

betarulz, ya guys got to much time on hands!:) Well what else do you do in Neb. In winter?!
Do not make it controversally or will get S**T! Be gentle my still _____! A costume Party with a theme, and be careful with this! Went to one that was song title, I was the Jolly Green Giant and My Before and now ex was the Amazon. I was painted Green and She Brown with a bone in hair! We won! :D Toga, Toga, Toga, is always good!:D Woodsie, off to the woods etc. Group thing, Campfire party, commune with Nature. 1960s, you know for You Kids. BobbySox, rolled up jeans, T-Shirts! Sci-Fi! Who knows where that could go!:D The first College I went to, had a River, when it was down, great sany beaches, WOW Party!:) |
my ALL TIME favorite is "5 dollar prom"
...you can only spend 5 dollars on what you are going to wear...the trashier and older the better hah. and its fun to go to thrift shops! |

No football here...no real homecomming which really sucks!
Thanks for your suggestions...keep 'em comming please :) |
You should try a Crush Party! It is a lot of fun. Basically, everyone in the chapter picks a person they have a "crush" on (it can be a friend, or boyfriend or girlfriend for some people) and then someone else in the chapter invites that person to the party. So, all these people are coming to the party, but they don't know who invited them until they get there. It is really a lot of fun!

Avoid
Avoid these proven trouble making themes:
1 - fish fry, with campus koi 2 - minstrel show 3 - Jackson 5 look-a-likes 4 - the good ole daze of hazing 5 - possum bashing and dinner 6 - most malfunctioning costume |
too bad too, because I heart the Jackson Five songs.

Basically this is what's going to happen. The point of the party will be to grind and hookup. What helps? Low lighting, alcohol, music, something to get people to talk for like 5 seconds.
Low lighting = Turn off the lights so all the uglies look pretty. Alcohol = Natural Ice Music = Any grind music with sexually explicit lyrics...probably rap Something to talk about = the theme...not really too important...make them all wear the same color. -Rudey --See how easy that was? |

Good call, Rudey...that or Keystone Light are staples for any fraternity party. Another theme...We had an exchage with a fraternity that was themed 80s workout...it was classic! Nothing is better that boys in shorty shorts and sweat bands! |
Ahh, isn't it nice to know that campuses across the country refer to that pisswater as "Natty Ice?"
It gives me warm fuzzies... in a really odd sort of way. |
Gotta go with a swamp/jungle party with lots of sand/bamboo /jungle juice with (hawaiian punch and everclear) and a good expensive soul/funk band that doesn't stop till five a.m. Stir everything together and yessir you have a great party.

We have had some really good theme parties as well as some pretty bad ones...These just stuck out in my mind...
-Jamacian Me Crazy (island/tropics/jamaica theme) -"Come on Barbie, Lets go Party" (dress up like your favorite Barbie, i.e. Pajama barbie, Pool side barbie, pretty much any costume you want) - Let your Sister find you a Mister, Let your Bro Find you a Hoe (this one is kind of complicated, you draw your sister/brothers name out of a hat and find them a date. We did it with a fraternity and we picked their names and all went to the horse races.) -"get lucky" (everyone wears green, usually held on st. patricks day) "Red or Dead" (either dress up as a Dead head or a Red Neck) "paint your date" (the fraternity hosting it bought 500 bottles of kids paint and we took buses to a empty field and had paint wars while a band played...great fun!!) "Christmas in the Hamptons" (christmas party where everyone dresses up like rich people from the 80's...think Dallas and Miami Vice.) -Catholic School Girls ( everyone dresses in plaid/private school clothes...slutty ones of course) -On the Border (mexican/cancun theme...swimsuits, ponchos, mexican dresses...) And the list goes on and on.... |
