help!
 

At my university. the AKA's are not as active as other greek letter organizations, so it is not very easy to express interest. The few AKA's that are known are sometimes intimidating. Is there any advice on how to break the ice without looking desperate?
Also does it do me any good to speak with faculty at my school that are AKA's, or is it totally up to the ungdergrad's?

Well I can understand exactly where you are coming from except for the fact that they aren't that intimidating but their activities aren't as publicized or noticed as other greek organizations. My advice to you is to join other campus organizations (ex: drama club, service club, sga) as well as continue to do community service. Your participation in such groups/activities/service will be recognized by the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated without you looking anxious, desperate or worrisome. Also while in those other groups you may meet one of them and become friends with them based on their personality and mutual interest opposed to just becoming friends for the purpose of seeking membership. Remember to be genuine and humble in what you do. I hope that has been of some help to you.

No one ever said it would be easy. If it were would it be worth it.

I think it's important to think of them as people first. They are students just like you w/ similar concerns and problems. I suggest you find an opportunity to say hi. Then build on it. You know how girls chit chat about school and such. There's no need for a way in when you treat people as people. Yes they are a very critical group of people for you but don't let that prevent a casual hello or what's up.

Saying hi isn't the only way but it's a start. Remember: The squeaky wheel gets the oil.
