University of Denver???
 

My step-sister-in-law is a senior in high school and is doing her all-important mail box watch now. She found out yesterday she was accepted to the University of Denver. I looked to see if they had an ADPi chapter there, but no luck.

Do/did any of you go to Univ. of Denver? What's is like? What do you love about your school? What's greek life like?

They have a small Greek System -- last I knew about 5 fraternities, probably one or two less sororities. We talked to them about colonizing, but their IFC is a pretty tough nut to crack and some of their requirements are, we thought, unreasonable.

As for the school -- very nice campus and very high academic standards. Outstanding music school (we have a friend in their voice department). It is the school from which Condeleza Rice (I probably destroyed the spelling of her first name) got her PhD.

Also pretty expensive.

Lots of recent graduates of schools from around the country who want to live in Denver choose the DU area in which to live.

Ditto what DeltAlum said about the school. It is expensive but excellent.

Greek Life there is decent - 8 fraternities and 5 sororities: Delta Delta Delta, Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Zeta, Delta Gamma, and Gamma Phi Beta.

I have a friend who was a DG there.

The area near DU is called Washington Park, the place to be for a 20-30 somethings in Denver. They've got cute shops and bars (I liked Governors' Pub) that are pretty cool, not to mention Washington Park to run/jog/bike around. Expect the area to be kinda pricey, the houses are older, but she can probably find a decent place to rent.

Yeah, Wash Park is very cute, kinda expensive. Anyone who can't afford it can go slum in Glendale though, cheap apartments, five minutes from DU.

Couple of other things.

A brand new light rail line will soon stop adjacent to the DU campus and put students within a very few minutes of all of the very neat downtown areas like The Denver Pavilions and LoDo, which is the area around Coors Field. It will terminate within walking distance of the Pepsi Center -- or even Mile High Stadium (I don't want to say Invesco Field) if you're a long walker. LoDo is just full of great bars, clubs and restaurants. One of them is owned by Denver's new Mayor. Daughter number two also works in one a couple nights a week. Light rail also goes by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts -- the largest performing arts complex outside of NYC. A lot of the big touring companies of Broadway Shows premiere here, ie. The Lion King, Sunset Boulevard, Oklahoma and others. Next seasons shows include Hairspray and Movin' Out.

Also, did you notice it's yet another college with an "initial" identity crisis. It's name is "the University of Denver," but we call it DU. Kind of like "the University of Colorado," which we call CU.

Ditto on the comments on the Wash Park area -- just try to stay sober enough not to run into the lake.

(Did someone mean Guvnor's Park? Great bar/restaurant, but more in the Capital Hill -- another great, but expensive place to live with very young demographics -- area than Wash Park. Or is there another place I'm unaware of?)

Sorry, I can't tell you much but the President of my alumnae chapter went there.

It's our Theta Chapter so it's an older chapter.

Sadly there are no adpi chapters in the denver area. A sister and I checked it out while we were there in the fall so we could meet up with sisters but we ended up checking out denver on our own. Congrats to your sister though!
