Starting an alum association?
I got a list of women in my area who belong to my NPC org and i'd like to start an alum assocation. However, this is a busy year for me and I don't want to be president or anything, but I'd like to know if the interest is there and then set up a meeting.
How should I go about this? I don't want to have to organize everything by myself since I don't ahve the time, but it'd be nice to have a local alum org. |
Melody -
Speaking from experience - you might want to contact the alumnae coordinator (or whatever she is called) at your national headquarters and ask if anyone else in your area has expressed interest so you can all begin it together. I say this because you say you aren't interested in being prez - you might end up with it anyway if you are the one to make the contacts and such. It is very hard to get one started and even harder if you try to do it all on your own. I know how it is to want to have an alum chapter, but you can only do it if the interest is there. |

Melody, 2 things.
1. Find out how many are in your local area. 2. make some calls and contact your Hdq to see if any interest has been shown. Once this has been done, then see who is interested in being an Officer etc. I would guess intiately, that if you do this, you will have to be the ram rod so to speak and get it rolling. A lot depends on how active the group feel they want to be and do. I would say starting off, just make it a social gathering and extend from there. Maybe once a month for social purposes, maybe cocktails at the same place monthly. The numbers will ebb and flow depending on time restaints of the ladies. Dont be frivilous but on the other hand dont be to regimented. It is to be a fun time to gather and BS as it were. Have fun and relax or what ever!:) Good Luck!:) |
Ditto to what everyone else has said. Most, if not all, GLO's have one or more alumnae volunteers who do nothing but help interested women start alumnae groups. Gamma Phi Beta has three who deal with alumnae extension. And if your group's like Gamma Phi, alumnae chapters have to be voted on by Coucil (or whatever you call it) before you can be an official group.
