Just a Question

Could any of you fine gentlemen find out of their was ever an -official- chapter of Sigma Pi was at the University of Rio Grande?

The reason I ask this is that I was going through some Rio yearbooks (80's I believe) and their was a GLO of Sigma Pi w/letters, berets, and flag for the picture. But here's the thing, throughout speaking w/a whole lotta alumni and sifting through documentation, they were still called a local. The only Nat'l on campus was Alpha Sig. Here's another thing, a local fraternity died out a couple of years ago that went by "Pi Sigma" and from the 60's to 2001 they were called the latter. But only in that one yearbook they called themselves "Sigma Pi". Oh, and no it wasn't a typo on the schools part, they had the correct letters on. :)

Could you guys shed some light on this for me?? :D

I looked over our National website and couldn't find anything. is the school known by any other names?

The only other name that the school would go by is Rio Grande College.

ok...I don't think there was ever any chapter at Rio.

Hmm..that's interesting...

I wonder if they didn't realize there was a Nat' Fraternity named "Sigma Pi"and they did it as a joke (they were known for that) . That's the only reasoning I could think of.

Well thanks anyway! :D

I looked through some ore yearbooks, they did go Nat'l w/Sigma Pi in the 60's, however, I couldn't find a chapter name.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking :p If you're curious of why I'm back into wanting to know is because I'm doing research on a book I intend to write about the history of GLO's on Rio's campus. And it's not helping that there are no longer an Pi Sig's here anymore, heck, many of them knew that they were Nat'l at one time.

Do you think I'll have more luck trying your Nat'l?

Maybe it's because you all also have Chi Omega Alpha and Delta Theta, and they didn't want to feel left out by having a name that wasn't similar to a National org. :p

Seriously, though, do you think it could've been because they were a colony or something and never chartered?

LOL! True, true.... :p Don't get me started on the "Team Chi-O" shirts they're sporting now, oye!

Well, when I -finally- found something about Sigma Pi, they did say that they are "now National" But that's it. They had less than a paragraph, I've gotta research it more.

Colonies are considered "National." I bet that's what happened, if you can't find any record of their being a chapter there. Happy researching!
