I'm from Illinois but have been down in Atlanta since 1995. Personally, I'm getting sick of being here for a variety of reasons. Traffic is definitely one of them. The highway system (if you want to call it that) is so backwards. We barely have any highways. There is basically just a cross in the middle of a circle. Unlike say Chicago that has highways running all over, diagonally, criss-cross, etc.

However, Atlanta definitely is still a great place to visit. But visit, not live. I'll be moving back to the midwest soon(i.e. Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis). The only thing I'll miss about being here is not having to worry about snow. Because if it snows even a centimeter, the whole city shuts down. However, up north, it takes pratically a blizzard to shut schools, work, etc. down.

I live in Tallahassee right now and it seems EVERYONE wants to move to Atlanta. I know there are other cities that are great places for African Americans but I think the ATL is so popular right now because they get so much good press. I don't travel enough so I haven't decided where I want to live after graduation. I did visit Baton Rouge and New Orleans this past November and I liked both cities so who knows. You should follow your
heart and not everyone else.

I love Atlanta! It is a nice place to visit, but I lost my interest in living there. I'm looking forward to living outside of Charlotte. Omigosh!!! I move in two weeks!!

i hear what you're saying, Nikki25 but as someone who lives in a town that's trying to pass as a real city (Cincy), i would rather be in Atlanta. i had 4 yrs. there and wouldn't mind going back. 2nd choice, somewhere in MD, or DC, or northern VA. i'm a big city kinda gal, preferably in the east or the south.

I'm Houston bound in.....3 days....currently in Nashville....any sorors in Houston...could you please tell me about your chapter...where/when it meets and etc. I haven't lived there in 11 years...

I was considering ATL for grad school (urban planning w/ Historic Preservation), being an urban studies concentrator, we hear about the "Atlanta effect" and how bad the suburban sprawl is, and I've only visited there--not lived there, and I can attest to how bad it is.

If I could live anywhere, not worrying about money, I would pick San Francisco. The weather's great, beautiful views, and I'm not really worried about earthquakes--after 20 years of living in ground zero for hurricanes, I don't really worry about that!

Do I have to pick any other place other than my home ci ty? If so, really, and it's really crazy, but I would choose Paris, France--seriously!!! Because, it's great food. Excellent people. Immense history. Lotta Africans--or Les Africaines--(yeah, girls got me one of 'dem--made sho of dat!!!). And most of all, it's probably cheaper there, now, than in SoCal...

Is it me, or does it seem as if everyone is trying to move to Atlanta! I really do like the city of Atlanta, but it is absolutely far too crowded for me...the urban sprawl is ridardiculous!

If you could have your pick of a city in the U.S or world to move to, which one would you select and why?

I would move to Houston, TX because it's warm, southern hospitality, great churches, The Galleria, and because of the professional environment.

After graduation, we are moving to the east coast ASAP! He's from D.C. and to me, that's the place to be. I'm not really a southern kinda gal. I reserve the south for vacations. I'm from Chicago, and there is no place like home. I love it to pieces and couldn't wait to move back after relocating a mere 30 miles away.

However, my dream region is NYC. I don't care. I'll live in Staten Island, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Harlem, Queens...anywhere just to be in NYC. The vibe that I get in NYC is like no other, even Chi-Town can't compete with it.
