Everyone who is sick...
Ok, it seems like at least half of us GCers are sick right now, so what are the best ways to get over it, and what are your "whiny, gotta have it" things when your sick.
Yes, I am sick right now, brochitis sucks. I always want my stuffed snoopy, my Hello Kitty jammie pants, and New England Clam Chowder. And Nyquil, does NOT work, except to make you pass out. Does anyone make a cold/flu/allergy med that works???? WTF do we pay doctors for???? Yes, I am delirious. Anyway-what about the rest of you poor sick babies???? |
Must have: Mint tea, lemonade (both hot & iced), tissues in every room (with a bag to put the used ones in), toast, comfy slippers, lots of Advil, Tylenol flu, and solitude.
What's wrong with passing out? |
Well, I don't mind the passing out.....i just wish it actually made me better!! :(
|
I use Comtrex which worked wonders. Someone else also mentioned drinking tea with lemon in it.
|
Pre-surgery, I always took some type of Cold medicine like the Alka-Selzer Plus/Aleve Cold and Sinus stuff that would help with my colds, but since surgery, I've lucked out and haven't gotten sick since then.
Orange juice was always good for me too (but now I can't have it) When I'm sick, I do want to have my tissues with baggie for the used ones, my blanket, my books and my dog to snuggle with. I don't like soup, so when I'm sick I want good food that I can eat :) |
When I have a sore throat, Campbell's Chunky Sirloin Burger with Country Vegetables Soup works wonders. I swear by the stuff.
Other things I need: comfy jammies, loads of tissues, juice, my Oscar the Grouch hand puppet which I've had since I was a baby, and my dog. Oh yes, and a bunch of good books. I can't take cold medication during the day because pseudoephedrine interacts with one of the medications I take and I feel like I'm drowning inside my head and get really really drowsy. (At night it doesn't matter since I WANT to be drowsy!) Since almost all cold/flu medications contain pseudoephedrine HCI, I have to use regular Tylenol and nasal spray, which does not interact with my medication. |
OJ.
Sleep. Sprite. Cable. Thats all I need. |

IS the stuff that you're talking about called "Airborne"??I'm so excited that someone else is using it because I told everyone at work about and they all laughed at me....I don't know why because I definately think that it works. Then again, maybe it doesn't since I'm still sick, but hey, medicine can't work wonders. I also need my humidifier, box 'o' tissues, cold ease drops, comtrex works for me too, and the ever popular ZICAM. |
Ugh, I woke up sick.
I need hot tea with lemon and honey in it, my favorite kitty jammies, a blankie, my teddy bear, and plenty of sleep! |
I had pnoumna in November and it was horrible and i still have the after effects of the cough.....
my "must haves" are: OJ and 7 up combined oprah and other mags and a good book my burgendy and green knitted throw SLEEP kleenex Nyqiul( usually) my big fluffy pink princess slippers/ my fav pjs a hot bath and my bed |
Luckily I'm not sick yet, but I feel like I'm just avoiding the inevitable. Last night I spent three hours in the emergency room with my housemate cause she been sick for the last month and started having chest pains.
But when I'm sick all I really want is to be at home with my mom and not stuck here at school. Though I do crave mashed potatoes a lot when I'm sick too. |
Ugh! I'm sick too! This is like the 5th time this season, and I'm sick of being sick!
And I have to work today, which makes it about ten times worse... I just wanna go home and climb into bed, under my heating blanket! Red (fruit punch, cherry, etc.) Gatorade always makes me feel better, too, but I think it's a mental thing more than a physical thing. My mom's homemade chicken soup works wonders too! |
When I am sick, I like OJ, soup, hot tea, and tv.
|
I like ice cream or pop cicles (sp) because it helps my throat.

Since there really is no known cure for a virus type of illness, all you're really doing is masking symptoms.
I heard or read the other day that some docs now think that actually can lengthen the illiness, because the body's natural defenses (or something like that) don't work as hard when the symptoms are less. Not a doctor, but that makes some sense to me. I still like Nyquil and menthol cough/throat drops. Although I wouldn't try it, the sports director at a TV station I worked for many years ago used to swear that the way he got over illnesses was taking a bottle of Scotch into a really hot steamy bath and soaking the illness out. Hmmmm...... |
