Dumb Question...

Is it okay to wear black dress shoes with navy pants?

Lady Pi Phi 01-28-2004 08:59 AM

i'm going to go an say yes...I mean what other colour shoes would you wear...Navy Blue soes are not very popular...or at least I haven't seen to many.

I see people do it all the time.

I have a pair of navy shoes but they're a little bit snug and not very comfortable to wear. I'm going on a few job interviews today so I'm going to have to have my dress shoes on for the majority of the day.

no, you do not wear black & navy blue together. you wear brown shoes with navy blue.

AOX81 01-28-2004 11:24 AM

I don't own a pair of brown dress shoes so that's not an option...

okay well, the answer is still no - you do not wear navy blue with black shoes.

I think navy & black looks hella better than navy & brown. At least as far as dress shoes are concerned.

Well I did...

I found the following on a couple of websites...

"You will be happy to know that you can stop looking for navy shoes. Wearing black shoes with navy pants or skirts is now acceptable, and has been for several years."

"Black and blue are perfectly OK to wear together, and actually the preferred combo. I'm not sure exactly when the aesthetic changed, but I do remember when cordovan or brown were acceptable choices for navy."

Thank you Rudey. :)

okay..a couple of things:

a) black does not go with everything

b) if you were just going to wear the black shoes with the navy blue pants anyway, why start this thread to begin with?

c) if you were just going to look up the answer on the internet, again then why bother with the thread in the first place?

i still say that black does not go with navy blue, but then again..i guess i wouldn't wear a navy blue pants to begin with.

I agree with Kate on this one--I was taught never to wear black and navy blue. If you don't have navy blue shoes, you should wear brown or cordovan.

I have a navy blue suit, and I didn't wear it until I found navy blue shoes to go with it.

This may be the "new" way, but traditionally black + navy = wrong wrong WRONG.

Of course, it also used to be unacceptable to have your underwear hanging out, but everywhere I go lately there are thongs hanging out of low rise pants, and don't even get me started on the visible bra strap thing (Carrie Bradshaw should be ashamed!). My grandmother would be horrified.

Let's put it this way ... if you wear black shoes with the navy clothes, some people will think it's ok but some will also think "Tacky!" However, if you wore navy shoes with the navy clothes, NO ONE will think you messed up.

I'm horrified when I see it... Can't stand it when girls show their underwear or bra straps on purpose... I'm terribly embarrassed when I wear a tank top and my bra strap slides down a little.

Ditto, but I'm not really a large fan of navy, so I hopefully won't ever have this problem. :p
