Alpha Theta Zeta
I just read in the new Cross and Crescent that the Alpha Theta Zeta chapter at Franklin and Marshall College is looking to come back on campus. Disbanded in 1982 (with the house sold to the college) they never got to come back with F&M being one of the North East Liberal Arts colleges to "Ban all Greeks" in the mid 1980's
The long and short of it is that the College Trustees decided to actually recognize the Greeks there (last fall) and had a bunch of our alumni at the old LCA house this October at the old chapter house (now the admissions building). The blurb went on to say that the alumni want to recolonize now and buy the old house back. This chapter was always on my "never coming back" list. Frankly Im shocked with this turn of good events, that one of these schools (F&M, Dartmouth, Colby etc) would actually CHANGE their minds to our favor. Heck I even saw on DePauw's alumni website they are getting ready to come back in a year or so (Xi-Zeta) Unbelieveable Lenoxxx |
WOW - maybe a couple of decades of lower alumni donations (from the greek alums) played a hand...hmmmmmm?
FYI - Northern Colorado is OFFICIALLY RECHARTERED - San Diego State will be recolonizing next fall. Colorado State is on the long-term list - I would estimate a couple of years or so at most - the house is still owned by LXA. Is this the start of some new momentum for growth for all fraternal organizations? Membership in almost all fraternities, in and out of college (i.e. Elks, Moose, etc...) has been in a decline mode for about a decade, but are showing signs of coming out of their slump. It seems to happen in cycles - could this be the start of an upswing? |
