We Broke!

Hey bruhs, our chapter needs your help! We are trying to raise money via fundraisers but don't know where to begin (it's kind of hard to make money when you don't have any! Well, let me take that back, we got about $10 bucks to our name :() Anyways, the campus is a bit strict when it comes to selling things on campus. And most of our members aren't what you would call...wealthy. Most of us just have J.O.B.s (Just Over Broke).

Any ideas? I was thinking maybe planning an event and obtaining sponsorship from various companies. But I thought I'd ask you all first!

Well city are you in??? I know a good fundraiser we do in Nashville is to work the predators games. We get at least 40 dollars a person or 8% of food sales and 10% of beer sales or something like that...which ever is greater. You can try car washes, they generate good money. You can try road blocks, fundraisers like donut sales. I think the important thing is to do something that you like and you enjoy and see how you can put a spin on it. Try bake sales!!! Snacks are always a good seller.

Ok forget the bake and donut sales *lol* I missed the part about your school being strict on that.

Here's a good link with plenty of ideas: http://www.fundraising-ideas.org There are some really creative things on the DIY Fundraising page. Plus if you scroll down and click on fraternities it will give you a list of things that have worked for other fraternities.

As for what's worked in my chapter, when I was there, we did a topless car wash. No, it's not what you think. :D We'd wash the bottom of the car for free (doors etc.) but we'd wash the top of the car for a donation. (I'd go no more than $5.) Obviously you would not want to do this during the middle of winter. After I graduated, the chapter did football parking. We'd have a couple people in a section of the stadium lot literally guide people to spots and collect money. We got a set amount of money per week, I think. You can also do this for basketball if the campus allows it. We also cleaned the stadium after home football games. It was a pain but we did make good money doing that.

Hope this helps!

Car Washes are good. Go with donations rather then a set price. Most people will give you atleast $5, many will give more. If you work with local businesses like Wal-Mart, they sometimes will match what you get.
