question for the boys
do guys think little tatoos are sexy or trashy?
|
I am not a fan of tatoos but I wouldn't call them trashy per say.

I just wonder what happens down the line when the fad (if, in fact, it is one) goes away or reverses, what happens to all of those tatoos. I hear they're pretty hard to remove. |
Trashy and terribly immature. To permanently mark one's body because it happens to be trendy at the moment makes no sense to me. I do lose respect for any woman who who has a tatoo. I find it incredable that women, who are so conscious of the smallest changes in what is fashionable, would make such a permanent statement that has in Western culture been long regarded as the domain of the bottom feeders. I think a tatoo is equally gross on a man and would think long and hard about dropping one on a rushee who had one. It is indicative of where this guy would be coming from, and in my experience he would have to really be an exceptionally strong contender to get a bid. I believe this position is pretty much generally held throughout the brotherhood as I have almost never seen a DEKE with a tatoo and the comments from the guys were pretty cold when the subject came up.

Trendy tatoo = trashy or stupid (As in I am drunk silly girl on Spring Break woo)
That includes trendy lower back tatoos, trendy ankle tatoos, foot ones and the ones just below the waist line. For those people that are just into tatoos . . its different. Not my cup of tea, but at least its moe of an artistic statement than a stupid drunk high thing to do. |
I hate tatoos.

Trashy
If you go to a "gentlemen's club," all of the strippers have tatoos. Think about that.

I know I am not a guy, but I want to add my $0.02.
I have 3 tattoos. I love my tattoos. They are invisible. No one can see my tattoos unless I am naked/in my underwear/bathing suit. The problem with asking other people what they think of tattoos is that you shouldn't. If you have to ask for approval of something it probably means you shouldn't get it. I didn't get my tattoos because I cared what some guy thought. I didn't get my tattoos because everyone was doing it and I wanted to be cool. I got my tattoos for very personal reasons and I do not regret them one bit. I know when I am old and wrinkly they will not look as good as they once did. But that doesn't matter. I got them for myself and no one else. If guys don't like that, then that's fine with me. I do not think it makes me trashy. But then again I'm not looking for anyone's opinion or approval. For those of you who are thinking of getting any tattoos, please make sure you think long and hard about it. Please make sure you get something that's meaningful (not Marvin the Martian tattooed on your a$$) and make sure you do it for you and no one else. They are not for everyone but they do not make you any less of a lady or gentleman if you do have one. It's your attitude that makes the person, not your body art. As for the gentleman's club comment, there are many clubs that do not permit their dancers to have tattoos, and if they do they must be covered up. |
I agree with Lady Pi Phi.
I have a tatoo. And unless I wear a bathingsuit (or my track uniform, which is practically the same damn thing, but don't get me started on that) no one will ever see it. I didn't get something trendy, and I didn't get it on a 'typical' spot for girls. I thought about this tatoo since I was 16...and finally got it since I was 21. Personally, I don't care if someone else doesn't like it; I didn't get it for them, I got it for me. And further more, if I date a guy, and after how many months/years he sees my tatoo and decides I am trashy, that is pretty shallow of him, and I wouldn't want to be with him anyway. |
I agree with Lady Pi Phi and DolphinChicaDDD!
I also think it is pretty pathetic of the rest of you to judge someone by something on one's body. I majority of females that get tatoos get them in places that are not visible unless they want to share them with others. I have 3 tatoos and have never once regretted them for a second. My parents were not hot on the idea of it but when I showed them they were fine with if because a) it was something I wanted and they are support me and b) I could easily cover them up. The majority of people don't know that I have them and would never think I would. Doesn't make me any less of a person and sure as hell doesn't make me trashy!! Oh Yeah!! My husband has 3 also...all not visible...and one of them actually covers a birth mark that he hated. |
I would never ever EVER want a tattoo, but I think that there are definitely "categories" of tattoos:
Something small, simple, not trendy, easy to cover up - that's fine. Your favorite rock band du jour, Japanese lettering when you're not Japanese, or cartoon characters - that's just silly. Are you really going to want a Powerpuff Girl on your tummy when you're 47? Mike Tyson - bad bad bad. I never thought it was possible, but he is even more scary. So many tattoos that you have more ink than skin color on that part of your body (i.e., almost the entire arm, leg, back, etc. is covered) - yuck. I knew a girl in law school who was an ADPi and one of her sisters had died in an accident. She was apparently a really wonderful girl and very well loved by the chapter. Several of the sisters went and got little pansy tattoos. (I think that's the right flower - my friend told me it was the ADPi flower.) Everyone got them in different spots, and all in places that could be covered up. The tattoo itself was teeny-tiny - a little smaller than a dime. Now, this I think is nice - a permanent way all those sisters remember her, very sweet but still classy. I know a lot of Marines that have some type of tattoo symbolizing their service, usually on their shoulder. That doesn't bother me for some reason. The main thing with a tattoo is that it is permanent, so it should represent something that has also permanently affected your life. |
I am so surprised at the comments that have gotten thrown around!
We were just sitting around my office talking about it today while I was on GC and decided to post it. I am not looking for approval. I don't have any, I don't plan on getting any...but props to the people I do....almost all my friends do. And no, they didn't ask for anyone's approval. |

I don't think most of us were judging, she just asked the guys of gc what they thought about them and we gave her our answers. Like I said I am not a fan of them but I don't think they are trashy.
