Do the Knicks Not Suck?

The Knickerbockers just won in Chicago, 101-96. That's 3 in a row! 4 of the last 5! Stephon Marbury and Lenny Wilkens, hometown sons! Marv Albert wearing a dress and yelling, "YES!!!"

The Knicks have certainly improved greatly in the past couple of weeks - if they can dump Van Horn (which it's rumored they may be able to do), that would be a major bonus for the team.

It's cool to see the Knicks making some moves since Isiah Thomas joined the team. Since Philly and Boston are struggling a little bit right now, the Knicks can move up in the Atlantic Division.

I wouldn't go as far to say the Knicks are GOOD, but I'll definitely say Lenny and Stephon are a definite plus for that team! Isiah knows what he's doing... Maybe they'll actually make the Eastern Conference fun to watch.......maybe. :)

I hope so. the Midwest Division shouldn't be getting all the attention;)

Yeah yeah...:D They deserve it! But I think the attention is on the Knicks at the moment...or at least it seems that way to me. The whole Lenny Wilkens thing is EVERYWHERE.

And why not? it's the home of the defending World Champs :D

Seriously though, i hope isiah can turn around the Knicks. the NBA just isn't the NBA if the Knicks suck. Plus, it makes beating you New York types sweeter if your team is actually good :D

There is nothing like winning in New York

The Knicks also get the attention because they are in New York, and New York is the media capital of the world (not an exageration.) There are 5 daily English newspapers here (most cities are lucky to have 1), a few Spanish dailys, and dozens of weekly newspapers in English, and many other languages. After every game, each local sports team has at least 20 (sometimes over 40) reporters in the locker room. Some players come to New York, and can't deal with the sheer amount of attention from the media. All of the major networks are based in Manhattan.

So yes, all of the attention is on the Knicks. Where, unlike Atlanta, for example, we support our teams even when they lose. But when they win, there is nothing in the world like playing for a winning New York team. Local TV ads are as slick as national ones, and half of them seem to star athletes when the team starts to win. And the national media would rather interview athletes who are 30 minutes away, then those who are several hours away.

You can always spot someone who lives in the middle of nowhere, when they look forward to beating a team just because its from someplace else.

San Antonio is hardly the middle of nowhere russ. 1.6 million inhabitants.

And my dislike for New York teams stems from things such as George Steinbrenner, Spike Lee, Jeremy Shockey, and the otherwise general arrogance and attitude of New Yorkers. Maybe that ego rubs against my Texas ego and that might be the cause of my dislike, but oh well.

99 Finals

Spurs over Knicks, 4-1.

Tim and the Admiral hoisting the trophies at the Garden, Priceless.

And i'm sure you never want the Yankees to beat the Sox, or the Knicks beat the Celts, or the Rangers beat the Bruins.

<sigh>

maybe the dislike its cuz i even tried to be complimentary about the Knicks and get a shot at my hometown.

I want my teams to win, but not because I'm preoccupied with the cities of the opponents.

New Yorkers don't sit around and think. "I hate the city of San Antonio, I hope that its teams lose. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" That's just not our style. We just don't care enough about San Antonio to hate it.

And 1.6 million is a nice start.;)

I haven't paid much attention to the Knicks since Patrick Ewing left, so OK, I'll get back on the bandwagon. I'm not being a Mavs homer this year. They made me mad when they traded Nick Van Exel.

eta: Anyone else out there hearing rumors that Pat Riley is going to be the next Mavericks coach? Or this that only the talk here in Texas?

PhiPsiRuss 01-19-2004 04:48 PM

4 in a row!

Just beat Toronto 90-79 in the Garden.

The Knicks are looking less sucky by the game. One might even argue that the Knicks have nothing to do with suckdom.

I know the Knicks enjoy all the attention now since the Yankees had their moment in the sun.:p

Kitso,

I won't argue about that, friend. I wish the Central Division had the same type of action as the Midwest Division.
