Fraternity brothers at the U of R could be disciplined for allegedly swiping holiday yard decorations from some homes in Brighton.
Thousands of dollars in Christmas lights and ornaments were stolen at the beginning of December. On New Year's eve, security guards found them inside the Sigma Alpha Mu house.
A board at the school will determine what, if any sanctions, there will be against the fraternity.

Not all Sammy chapters are predominantly Jewish. Don't make assumptions, and do capitalize all religions.

Why did they do it? No matter what the religious makeup of the chapter is, those actions are contrary to the teachings of all major religions. The reason is probably similar for any fraternity chapter that commits illegal activities. If you want to know, get the police report.

One might argue that Sammy really isn't Jewish anymore.

True, but Tom is right, it wasn't in the "report" -- which the subject line may or may not be a part of.

Russell and Rudey are correct regarding the religious makeup of Sammy -- while it was a predominately Jewish fraternity for many years -- including when I was in college -- that's not true of many chapters today.

Why did you capitalize "Christmas" and not "jewish?" Why did you even bring up religion? Where was religion mentioned in the article? I know Sammy members, and not all of their chapters have a Jewish majority anymore. Why don't you call Sammy HQ on Tuesday and ask them. You're wrong, and a biggot.

The Sammy chapter at my school is predominately jewish as is AEPi and APES (fallen AEPi chapter). You need to relax man, he was not being biggoted in anyway. I do think however you are a little oversensitive, no offense intended.

He was completely being biggoted. Why even mention religion? It wasn't mentioned in the article.

I'd take a deep breath, count to ten and think a little before I accused anyone of being biggoted.

You don't know that to be true in this case, do you?

During my undergraduate days, I knew Sammy as a Jewish fraternity. If I had not kept up somewhat with the chapters on my Alma Maters' campus, I would probably still think it is a Jewish fraternity. It is a logical error to make.

That misunderstanding would make the question which is the subject of this thread absolutley logical.

As for the capitalization issue, while you are correct that a religion should begin with an upper case letter, in reality, the subject line here doesn't contain references to two religions -- rather to one religion and one holiday.

While Hoosier should have capitalized both, there may be other reasons why he didn't. They could range from simple oversight to a shift key that didn't work or wasn't held down long enough. I do that all the time.

In my eye, none of this makes him a biggot.

What's a biggot?

Hoosier almost always brings race and religion into hazing incidents. I've learned the beauty of ignoring it...

It is my strong impression -- although I don't have the time to revisit all of the posts, and don't intend to do so -- that most of Hoosier's posts are simply copied from some news source, generally without comment at all.

You can easily find them in places like Fraternal News to which I subscribe online.

I and others have occassionally objected to a poorly worded subject line.
