The troops, the war, the vote

Do you think the troops that fought in the new Iraq war and the troops currently stationed there will effect the 2004 presidential election? I personally am not sure. I think the military in general tend to be republican. But being stuck in a long rotation in Iraq, and the low moral at times might swing the vote against Bush. Morale went up when Sadaam was caught but the election is way off and the high they had for having him caught will be gone. I guess it all depends if they shorten the rotation, less people get killed, and if anyone else big is caught around election time. I still think Bush will get half the troop vote if not more but I think he will lose more than if we hadn't gone to war.

After the extremely heated discussion I had NYE with one of those said soldiers, I think they are still behind Bush. He's their Commander after all.

Now this new rule about not being able to get out for x amount of time after you return to the states might change the opinion, but I'm not sure.

If the choice is Bush or Dean, I'm pretty sure they'll take Bush............

I agree, if it is between dean and bush, it will be bush. If it is between Hillary and Bush, that is a different story.

If we're talking about just the soldiers votes, it will still be Bush. Hillary made the "we support you but not the war" comment to the troops which, of course, didn't go over well (another discussion I had on NYE).

But she supports the war.

I'm just repeating what I was told by a soldier regarding what she publicly said to a group of troops...........

We plan to be transitioning to an Iraqi government by June 30th. That'll either win him tons of brownie points or blow up in his face.

If it happens within that timeline. I think chances are good that it won't.
