Rush Ideas
Hey DZ sisters, Im from Theta Rho (CSULA). I just got elected for VP membership. I was wondering if any of you give out keepsakes or candy as an incentive. In this way girls will be interested to walk to the table and find out what sororities are all about. For theme, you can dress all black, put candles on table with white table cloth, and serve cheese cake with chocolate syrup on it. This turns out to be very special.

Good luck and congrats on your new VP position! :) To answer your question about giving out keepsakes/candy, I know that we weren't allowed to do that when I was in college. It was against Rush rules to give the girls anything that might sway their opinions about the sororities they were rushing. If a girl walked out of a party with so much as a napkin, we could be fined by Panhellenic. This definitely applied to formal Rush, and I believe the same rules were in effect for our informal parties as well. However, different campuses have different Panhellenic rules, so if it's allowed at CSULA, then I say go for it. I personally think it's a cute idea as long as the keepsakes are small. |
Hi Michelle,
Congrats on your new position! Some ideas for party themes: 1) A Night at the Movies (rent a popcorn machine, roll down a red carpet, nametags can be in the shape of a Star, your skit can be themed around an awards show and show "snippets" of top films -- and you can do brief songs/dances about sisterhood and friendship) 2) Tribute to commercials (same idea as above) 3) Friends (decorate your chapter room like Central Perk, your centerpieces can be cappucino mugs with daisys sitting in water). You can use the Friends Logo to write "Delta Zeta" and sing a variation on "I'll be there for you" 4) A League of Their Own 5) American Idol/TRL 6) Delta Zeta through the years at XYZ University (fun music and costumes to represent the decades!) Some of the best skits come from little bits of song and dance, keeping the PNM's entertained throughout. Less dialogue and more action. Remember, your conversations with PNMs throughout the week is enough dialogue. Use your skit to show off talent and convey sisterhood by the support of the sisters for the players. Make sure each chapter member has had a part in the skit-- from planning and costuming to performing, so each sister can tell her PNM that the whole chapter worked together to make the skit happen, and each one of the sisters had a chance to showcase her talents, whether behind the scenes or in front. That makes us all stars! |
we did a "dz dug out" a couple of years ago - we got oldschool baseball shirts that were super cool (the sigmas copied them this semester, and a local copied our superman shirt too) anyway we had baseballs for nametags, and all kinds of baseball and softball gear all over the rush room. they did a skit with 4 girls at a game - 2 were sisters and 2 were kinda maybe interested, and we used it to enforce that we were NOT like sorority life on MTV!!!
we sang too, to the "all american girls" from a league of their own.. gather up, hear our call the time has come for one and all to rush this fall we're the members of the sorority delta zee we've come from cities near and far we've got sisterhood, love and family we're all for one we're one for all team delta zee we all stand our heads held so proudly high, our letters filled with pride our sisterhood depends on being by your side our service shines through our community our scholarship will never fail all the fun we have, just really can't be beat we're all for one we're one for all team delta zee! just thought i would share... |
