Montell Williams admitted to smoking marijuana to ease MS symptoms
 

Did anyone see Montel's show yesterday? He admitted to smoking marijuana to ease his MS symptoms. He was persuading people to consider marijuana as a schedule II drug.

I'm all for it. If people can take morphine, vicodin, oxy, etc. to ease AIDS, cancer, and MS symptoms or side effects from treatment, I think they should have the right to use marijuana if it helps them.

What are your thoughts?

I've never done the stuff, but as far as marijuana goes, I say legalize it. Also, legalize meth. As bad as that sounds, it puts all the little meth cookers and drug dealers out of business. Make them illegal to use in any public setting, or do like the Dutch do. Have places where you must go to get high.

I agree. Legalize it and put the pushers out of business. When I was in college I knew several people who went way beyond smoking pot. Most of them initially tried these other things because the person selling the wacky tobacky was also selling things like extacy, acid, etc... IMO most wouldn't have bothered with the other stuff had it not been available alongside their pot.

I think one of the biggest problems with our drug policy is that our economy depends upon its enforcement in so many places. I know small towns that wouldn't even be on the map except for the large prisons they run.

Legalize this stuff and our prison system, prison guards, DEA agents, etc.. they're all looking for work.

Legalization was discussed in this thread as well, but not really medicinal legalization.

Our current drug policy is an historical accident, and need to be revisited in a non-moral setting.

In terms of the impact on the community, don't you think we could find other things for them to do????? How about shifting some DEA to "homeland security". The police will still have plenty of other crimes against people and property to deal w/. If the prisions can't stay occupied, then turn a few into historical museums, ala Alcatraz, and the rest into community colleges.

Why is pot still illegal? Honestly its ridiculous. Seriously...ridiculous.

Not just for medicinal purposes either. If people want to do it recreationally in the comforts and safety of their own home, they should be allowed to.

Actually there may not be enough for them to do in law enforcement if drug use possession is made legal . . .

The vast majoriy of crimes committed are drug related.

I'm all for legalizing drugs. I think a lot of the drug related crimes would be decreased if everyone could just pick up something at a corner drugstore. I think for being an advanced society we are way behind in the times...

I think part of the reason that drugs have not been legalized is because drugs today are not the same as they were 20 years ago. They are much stronger than they used to be. Chances are the pot that your parents smoked is not as strong as the pot everyone is smoking today.

I think about the decriminalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes quite often, and seriously--some aspects of the legal system benefit quite nicely from keeping a drug like marijuana illegal.

Who am I or the government to force a terminally ill person to deal with certain aspects of their illness--nausea, poor appetite, headaches--in the privacy of their own home for less money than separate pharmaceuticals for each symptom that would cost more?
