NPC & NPHC Sorority poem
I found this poem a while back while searching the net, don't ask me where because I lost the link when my old computer cashed and wanted to share it here to see if anyone ever saw it.
It was kind of fun to figure out each GLO, btw there are 30 GLOs in total 26 NPC and 4 NPHC. Sacred Things A sailboat on the sea moving forward, a compass guides, drifting side by side are a trident and 2 anchors just off the bow. Wisdom is sought in the eyes of a squirrel, 2 lions, giraffe, poodle, snake, or owl. A crescent moon shines, 2 torches and a roman lamp light a flight of a phoenix, while the sphinx waits patiently of riddles to be solved. A kite, dove, and arrow fly through the sky, while below a gentle breeze drifts across the strings of a lyre. On the beach each laying in wait are 2 ivy leaves, a sheaf of wheat, quill, triangle, crown, key and nautilus shell. These things are mystical and have great beauty. Of course the women who hold each sacred, are gathering for they only know what each truly mean. |
This is a really cool poem. It was fun trying to figure out who was what in it :)

Re: NPC & NPHC Sorority poem
Hmmm I wanna see if I can name all the groups it refers to :)
[QUOTE]Originally posted by ms_gwyn Sacred Things [FONT=times new roman][i][size=4] A sailboat on the sea moving forward, Tri Sigma a compass guides, Theta Phi Alpha? drifting side by side are a trident Tri Delta and 2 anchors just off the bow. Hmmm.... DG and....AST I think? Wisdom is sought in the eyes of a squirrel, 2 lions, giraffe, poddle, snake, or owl. AGD, then ADPi and Phi Mu, DPhiE, SGRho, SK, and XO. I think these are all right... A crescent moon shines, 2 torches and a roman lamp light a flight of a phoenix, while the sphinx waits patiently of riddles to be solved. GPhiB, SDT and AST(?), DZ, ASA, Phi Sig? I think? A kite, dove, and arrow fly through the sky, while below a gentle breeze drifts across the strings of a lyre. Hmm....Theta, SK, Pi Phi, and AXO. On the beach each laying in wait are 2 ivy leaves, a sheaf of wheat, quill, triangle, crown, key and nautilus shell. Let's see. Alpha Phi and AKA, then AOPi, AZD, maybe Tri Delt?, Zeta, Kappa, and no clue on he last one. That was fun! :D |
Heh, I know the last one.
The nautilus shell is one of Kappa Delta's symbols. My fiancee is a member. Jason |

I think the torch is DST?

triangle
I would guess that the triangle is TriSigma because of their badge?
Silver Can we definitely name all of the groups? What about the other torch??? So awesome! :) Silver ETA corrected spelling... Gee whiz! |

I had originally put the answers, but I think its fun guessing,
The triangle is the symbol of Delta Phi Epsilon :D |
Forwarding this to a sister who is Panhellenic Pres for 2004 @ our college!!

Alright, I got it....
A sailboat on the sea moving forward, a compass guides, drifting side by side are a trident and 2 anchors just off the bow.
Tri Sigma, Theta Phi Alpha, Tri Delta, Delta Gamma and Alpha Sigma Tau Wisdom is sought in the eyes of a squirrel, 2 lions, giraffe, poddle, snake, or owl. Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Delta Pi and Phi Mu, Alpha Epsilon Phi, Sigma Gamma Rho, Sigma Kappa, Chi Omega A crescent moon shines, 2 torches and a roman lamp light a flight of a phoenix, while the sphinx waits patiently of riddles to be solved. Gamma Phi Beta, Sigma Delta Tau and Delta Sigma Theta, Delta Zeta, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Phi Sigma Sigma A kite, dove, and arrow fly through the sky, while below a gentle breeze drifts across the strings of a lyre. Kappa Alpha Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, Pi Beta Phi, Alpha Chi Omega On the beach each laying in wait are 2 ivy leaves, a sheaf of wheat, quill, triangle, crown, key and nautilus shell. Alpha Phi, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Phi Epsilon, Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Delta. These things are mystical and have great beauty. Of course the women who hold each sacred, are gathering for they only know what each truly mean. **Some groups share the same symbols, but those groups can't swap symbols with each other and have the correct ones. i.e. For this poem, the dove is shared by Sigma Kappa and Zeta Phi Beta, but they both don't share the snake, so they aren't interchangeable. Does this make sense? By process of elimination I put DST with the second torch, but I couldn't confirm this on their national website.** ETA: Now, who's gonna write a poem for the NIC/NPHC fraternities???? |
