Allergies

I am terribly suffering with allergies . Is anyone taking any new medicines this season?

MeezDiscreet 04-28-2001 05:00 AM

i stay drugged up on benadryl. i take 2 a night because my dorm has dirty air ducts and the area where i am is bad on my allergies. i use the benadryl tablets (not capsuls) and they keep me straight.

I hope life isn't a big joke, because I don't get it.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind

My allergies aren't that bad, but when they do get unbearable I take Tylenol Allergy and Sinus. Thankfully, the air here is clean!

However, I suffer from another allergy--seafood. That means no fish, shellfish, nada. What's ironic is that I have a LOVE for raw fish. It doesn't matter how it's prepared, whether it be just sliced with mustard or marinated with soy sauce and seaweed....I simply love it. But then I suffer the consequences later. Sometimes I'll break out in hives, but most of the time it's just a rash (sometimes in weird places http://www.plaudersmilies.de/rough/smileydies.gif ).

Does anyone else have allergies to food or certain things?

I was a really bad asthma sufferer and allergies, the whole 9. My allergies include fish, peaches, cats, trees, grass, dust mold, ragweed. Now the only food allergy I do not mind is fish because I don't like it anyway. I only like popcorn shrimp. However, I still eat peaches and never have a "known" allergy reaction. I have to have peaches to enjoy my peach cobbler.

I used to take a prescription Bendaryl that I would sleep really good http://www.plaudersmilies.de/sleep.gif and was sooooo strong that I could take them just once or twice during allergy season and be good to go. http://www.plaudersmilies.de/spin3.gif

My daughter has awful allergies & asthma. She is on Zyrtec for the allergies and has to take Singulair, Flovent & Serevent for the asthma. I'm looking for an herbalist though, because she's only 6 and even though they seem to control her symptoms, I don't want to risk the long term effects of having to take medication on a daily basis.

This year seems to be the worst. Me & both of my children have eczema (sp?) and are suffering horribly. Cortaid is not working. I'm going to have to break down and buy the Euricerin again.

Speaking of seafood, she can't eat that either. But, I've heard that there is a medicine that you can get that'll allow you have a tolerance for seafood.

For allergies, I take the Claritin Reditabs. They dissolve on your tongue, and work well.
For asthma, my daughter has Singulair chewables.
My son has eczema and uses the Elocon cream(by prescription only. It works wonders.

since I came to college, living in dirty DC, my allergies are horrible especially this season. But Allegra is a miracle drug, I'm so glad it was made, before that I tried everything, Benadryl, Claritin, not of it worked.
Also another thing, is if you wear contacts, switch to glasses.
And make sure you don't wear clothes that you wore outside around the house, the pollen is on your clothes
Hope this helps

Here in South Carolina the pollen can be really heavy sometimes. I tried Clartin, and it didn't work for me. I am taking Zyrtec 10mg right now...and it works wonders, I don't get the headaches, and it doesn't make me drowsy. Hope that helps!

I have allergies too and I am only allergic to grass, pollen and the trees. While I dont have any food allergies, suffering from pollen is worse enough.

I have taken Claritin and its was too strong and gave me headaches. I have taken Zyrtec and that didnt work either. I have taken Allegra and that does absolutely nothing for me. The Benedryl help for a while and after that Im on my own. Nothing else seems to work.

While my allegies are still getting worse my doctor prescribed me to have to take the shot. I havent started the shot yet, but my appointment is coming up really soon because my allergies are gettin worse by the day.

So I know what you all are going through as far as the outside allgeries.

To CT4, Im soooooo sorry that you have the allergy to peaches, I would die because they are my favorite!

I was also getting the shot as a youngster for about 2 years but it was expensive although very beneficial.

Those peaches still get eaten and so far nothing has happened with that allergy. The only allergies that really bother me is that dang on pollen.

Hope you don't mind me posting here, but from someone who suffers from horrible seasonal allergies I just wanted to post a quick reply.
Allegra has worked well for me (i have horrible seasonal allergies and am allergic to some cats. not all, its weird) but i developed a sinus infection on it, since i did not take it every day, only when i felt the need to. The doctor told me if i wanted to remain on allegra to take it everyday all year long. She then wrote me a prescription for zyrtec(10mg) and recommended i try it before going back on allegra. It is the best drug i have ever taken. I usually can feel results inside of 10 mintues. And it works the whole day through, no giving out 4 hours later like some OTC sinus medications. Also I have found that it works well on my seasonal allergies and my cat allergies (when i visit my parents, they have 2 cats at their house so i can't just avoid them) where allegra really didn't help out my allergies due to cats. And I only take it when i need it, I don't have to remember to take every darn day. Hope this helps, I know how miserable allergies can be http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
