Kappa Alpha Order Legacy
Greetings to a very quiet board!!!
As the mom of 3 Kappa Alpha Order Legacies (My dad is a KAO from the Alpha Omicron Chapter 1957), I have been trying to raise my sons to think of themselves as "gentlemen" :) My oldest son is now 14 and looking to college...his requirements are simple...must have a KAO chapter to join...must have a Phi Mu Chapter to find a bride ;) OK OK...so mom is a tinsy fanatical :) Son is an excellent center, fairly decent guard and tackle, fantastic pitcher, wants to teach little kids (ie, k-5)... recommendations for schools? In other words, tell me about your chapters and your school! Thanks...and in the greek spirt... |
The University of Mississippi has a Kappa Alpha Order Chapter, Alpha Upsilon chapter founded in 1900. They were also IFC Fraternity of the Year for 2003. They also have a Phi Mu Chapter here, Alpha Delta, and they were founded here in the 1920s I believe. Both are VERY STRONG and not going anywhere ever! Of course, I think your son should date an AOII....

If your legacy would like to stay in the midwest, you could also consider Purdue.
Since I married a Purdue KAO, I have to type this real small - both chapters exist at IU as well. Adrienne :) |
School hunting
Purdue is an option as my husband (non-greek) has his masters from Purdue. Indiana University has a Phi Mu Chapter but not a KAO Chapter.
We live in Iowa. Iowa State has a KAO Chapter but no Phi Mu Chapter in the whole state! (wah!) I know we have 4 years. HOWEVER, we have a tradition (with our daughters) of driving past the chapter house (Phi Mu) at campuses as we pass through to see them. Time to start doing that now. |
Miami University has both now since Phi Mu colonized there last year. They have a great KAO chapter there. I was friends with a few of the guys and they were all so great!

I'm going to have to second Miami University. :p
What guys did you know there? |
The KA chapter at UC-Riverside looks like alot of fun!

Purdue and Miami of Ohio both look like the best choices :) Keep suggesting.... |
Bowling Green State University has one of the best education programs in the nation. if he is going into education, i would highly recommend BGSU.
BG also has a KAO chapter AND a Phi Mu chapter. currently we are in the process of re-making our website but for now it has a history section that explains everything from the start of the order to the start of our chapter. www.ka-zetalambda.org if you have any other questions about our chapter or about BGSU please feel free to contact me. Have a great day and good luck on your search!! Sincerely, Scott Ball scotteb@bgnet.bgsu.edu Kappa Alpha Order -Zeta Lambda |

Georgetown College in Kentucky has both KAO and Phi Mu
|
Western Kentucky University has both Kappa Alpha Order and Phi Mu.
|
Elon has fantastic chapters of both KA and Phi Mu. The KAs are a lot of fun, and my old chapter's sweetheart is a KA currently.
|
East Carolina University, Gamma Rho chapter is a great example of Kappa Alpha Order at it's best. East Carolina has a very good school of education so i hear. Only problem is, there is no Phi Mu sorority. But the good news is, with the new Assistant Director of Greek Life that just arrived being a Phi Mu, I have a feeling there will be a chapter there soon.

Ole Miss is the best place to go for both great Phi Mu and KA chapters!! I was a KA lil sis : ) loved those guys soooo much!!
