"World's Best Kept Beauty Secrets"
So, I just bought a book with the above-mentioned title - it's by an author named Diane Irons and it has some interesting tips in it.
She says to rub hot coffee grounds on cellulite, because caffeine reduces the appearance. And to use Milk of Magnesia to wash your face if you are broken out or oily and it will clear it up. Anyway, her Web site looks somewhat B-rate, but she has lots of published books and I heard she is a consultant to the stars (including Cindy Crawford, Christina Aguilera, and Mel Gibson). Does anyone know of her and have you tried any of her tips? What did you think of the results? Also, what are your best beauty secrets that you use? - I put powder on my lips before lipstick, so it stays longer. - Spray deodorant on your feet in the summer makes them smell good, and it makes them soft. - Preparation H under the eyes will reduce bags from lack of sleep. Those are basic ones I have tried, I will put others I think of down. |
When I am going all dress up I (and when I get older I will do this more) I use lical (or ice purple) eye shadow right at the corner of the eye, just a tiny bit.
This brightest up your eyes and covers "crows feet" which is a major problem for my family, actually the only problem. We smile a lot. |
Toothpaste is an effective way to get rid of a pimple. It dries out all the oils. Just make sure your skin isn't sensitive!

Olive oil is great for so many things. Hair, skin, scars, tans (though not healthy these days). You just have to smell like a salad for an hour or so then wash away.
Noxema-prevents almost ANY kind of scar from burns-chemical, sun or direct heat. Beauty- Lightly brush Blush around the outline of your face. If you have a waddle-brush it under ALL of your chins. I too put a lightener at the outer tips of my eyes and blend UP. A touch of lighter color right above the pupil is good and above your eyebrows to open you up. Lighten you hair as you get older and don't neglect your eyebrows-they need to lighten up as well. If they are too dark, it will make a face look hard. If you are aging around your eyes-If you use liner, once you pass the iris, draw your line out and gently up at the end-not extended past eye. Fill in the slight gap created with liner. Most of these are modified from theatrical makeup. Lucky to have a really wonderful, experienced director who loved to give out tips. |
Oh, THANK YOU for mentioning the lightening of the eyebrows!!! I can hardly stand to see an older, beautiful, blonde woman with black eyebrows!
When I have some time prior to showering in the morning, I put mayonnaise on the ends of my hair for about a half hour. It will take such a nice sheen and be "extra swingy"! Never squint unless it's a life or death moment! Start when you're young, and you won't have to worry about wrinkles until much later than the rest of the women your age. If you feel yourself frowning or squinting, immediately relax your face! The toothpaste bit works really well - IF it's white toothpaste, and not a gel! And if you're anything like me, start saving now for the surgery you might want to have in later years! :) |
I use Preparation H on zits, bug bites, anything of that nature. It relieves the redness and the itchy burn.

A warm washcloth rubbed on your lips keeps them exfoliated. Just be sure to dry them off (because all the water from your lips will evaporate) and then coat them w/ some sort of lip balm or vaseline to seal in moisture. Also, using shampoo intended for color treated hair is much better because it cleans your hair w/o stripping it of natural oils. Baby shampoo is actually very stripping, so don't use that!

a kleenex to blot the lips with lipstick and to hold the lipstick in place..... place the kleenex over the lips and dust with lose powder.
Prep H for bags under the eyes, pimples, and for thinning hair. i learned that one a long time ago. |
Oh yeah, I forgot - I actually brush my lips with my toothbrush to exfoliate.
And - if you drink a tablespoon of vinegar a day, it helps to burn fat. |

OMG, that sounds painful!!!! Reading that actually made my stomach hurt.
Now everytime I'm cussing the elliptical trainer while my legs feel like there about to fall off I'll think of the vinegar thing....doesn't make the elliptical trainer sound so bad now!! |
Also, the vinegar thing and/or drinking a lot of grapefruit juice can mess up a LOT of medications!! Be careful...
You know when you've been reading a lot or cramming, and the next day, your eyes don't look really bad, but they're sore? Make a cup of tea, and after squeezing most of the tea out of the bag, place on your eyelid. Add a little hot liquid before switching eyes. And don't forget not to squint as you do this!! The tannic acid relieves eye strain. |
