Something to Ponder
 

I did a search and did not find anything about it in this forum, but did you know that in 2007 the voting rights of blacks will expire? We are only six years away from that time. We were allowed to vote through a act, not a law. A lot of people seem to think that things have changed so much from those times but have they really changed that much that we don't have anything to worry about? In the light of recent racial tension everywhere in the U.S. how do you feel?

I heard that too, but wasn't sure how true it was. If it was just an act, then 2/3 of Congress will probably have to vote on making it a law - providing that a bill is proposed. This is untrue.

Though the Voters Rights Act was established to provide fair voting rights for all Americans. the 15th ammendment affirmed this just after the Civil War. The 15th Amendment is in the Constitution which can not be eliminated or finished after 2007 unless it is Ratified by Congress.

As we all know Jim Crow laws prevented Blacks from voting with several tests and other barriers. The Voters Rights Act of 1964 signed by Pres. Lyndon Johnson disallowed the practice of Jim Crow or other barriers that prevented Americans from voting. Since then,there have been various laws and acts enacted by Congress and local government from preventing people from voting for any reason regardless of race.

The 15th Amendment states:
Section 1.
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude

Unless the Constitution is ratified to change this, BLACKS WILL NOT LOSE THE RIGHT TO VOTE!

we discussed this in my african-american studies class. the 15th AMENDMENT gave us suffrage. an amendment means that the constitution has been altered. amendments do not expire. our voting rights are not going anywhere. i have received that email a numerous amount of times, but don't worry because it is not true. if you don't believe me, talk to a political science professor.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind

I did not know this. Dang! I am going to do a little research and discuss this topic with my students. Gosh!
